Mental Health Support Assistant – Outreach Work

About the Role:

Remedy Education is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Mental Health Support Assistant to provide outreach support to children and young people across the Maylandsea area. This is a rewarding opportunity to work outside of a traditional classroom environment, offering one-to-one support to students who may not be attending school due to mental health challenges, anxiety, trauma, or behavioural needs.

You will play a vital role in helping these young people re‑engage with education and develop emotional resilience, confidence, and independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide outreach support to children and young people in community settings or alternative education provisions.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to support their emotional well‑being and personal development.
  • Work closely with school staff, parents, and external professionals to deliver consistent, tailored support plans.
  • Maintain accurate progress reports and safeguarding documentation.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with social, emotional, or mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle – essential for travelling to outreach sessions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A calm, patient, and compassionate approach to behaviour management.
  • Ability to work independently while following guidance from the school and Remedy Education.
