Are you someone who does not panic when things get challenging? Do you have the patience, resilience and personality to support young people with Autism and complex needs?

Remedy Education are working with a specialist SEN school in Newham who are looking for strong, reliable and committed SEN Teaching Assistants to join them from September. This is not a basic classroom support role. You will be helping children and young people with ASD, complex needs, communication difficulties and challenging behaviour develop the skills they need for everyday life. The right person will be calm under pressure, emotionally resilient and genuinely passionate about making a difference.

The role will involve:

  • Supporting pupils with Autism and complex SEN needs on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Helping pupils build confidence, independence and life skills
  • Supporting behaviour management in a calm and consistent way
  • Assisting with personal care where required
  • Helping pupils regulate emotions and engage with learning
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and support staff
  • Supporting pupils who may display physical or challenging behaviour
  • Creating a safe, structured and positive environment

The school is particularly interested in people with backgrounds such as:

  • Residential support workers for children or young people with SEN
  • Support workers specialising in Autism, learning difficulties or complex needs
  • SEN Teaching Assistants with direct ASD experience
  • Youth workers, behaviour mentors or care workers with SEN experience
  • Graduates with a degree linked to Special Educational Needs, Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies or similar

This role would suit someone who is strong-minded, patient, reliable and not easily shaken. The pupils can have difficult days, but the impact you can have is massive. You will be helping young people build routines, confidence, communication skills and independence for later life.

Role details:

  • SEN Teaching Assistant
  • ASD specialist school
  • Newham location
  • Full-time, Monday to Friday
  • September start
  • Minimum wage / PAYE
  • Temp to perm opportunity for the right person
  • Long-term role with consistency
  • No parking available, but excellent public transport links

The school is looking for people who can commit properly. Attendance, punctuality and reliability are essential, and there is a genuine temp-to-perm opportunity for candidates who prove themselves.

This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who wants to build a career within SEN, especially if you have experience supporting children with Autism, complex needs or challenging behaviour. Apply now or get in touch with Aaron Deacon at Remedy Education to find out more.
