Outreach Tutor - Lewisham Position: SEN Specialist Tutor - Home & Outreach Tuition Age Range: Primary to GCSE Subjects: Maths and English essential; other subjects welcome Hours: 0-40 hours per week Typical Referral: 10-15 hours per week per student Pay Rate: £25-£35 per hour Contract: Ongoing / Long-Term Working Hours: Mainly during school hours About the Role We are looking for caring, friendly and enthusiastic tutors to support children and young people across Lewisham who may be struggling to access education in a traditional school setting. You will provide personalised one-to-one tuition, often in the student's home or another suitable community setting. This is a great opportunity for tutors who enjoy working closely with individual learners and want to make a genuine difference to their confidence, wellbeing and progress. Students may range from primary age through to GCSE, so there are opportunities to work with learners at different stages depending on your experience and preferences. Maths and English are essential subjects for this role. If you can teach additional subjects, we'd also be happy to hear about these. You don't need to be a qualified teacher to apply if you have strong tutoring or educational experience and are confident supporting young people with additional needs. About the Students Our students have a wide range of needs and abilities. You may support learners with: Autism (ASC/ASD) ADHD Dyslexia Dyscalculia Speech and language difficulties SEMH needs School anxiety EBSA Gaps in learning Previous difficulties accessing mainstream education Additional learning or communication needs Every student is different, and we match tutors based on their experience, subject knowledge and ability to build a positive relationship with the learner. What You'll Be Doing Providing one-to-one Maths and English tuition. Supporting learners from primary age through to GCSE. Teaching additional subjects where you have suitable experience. Helping students rebuild confidence and engagement with education. Identifying gaps in learning and working at the student's individual level. Planning engaging and purposeful sessions. Adapting your teaching to suit individual SEN needs. Supporting students with their EHCP targets and learning goals where appropriate. Helping students prepare for exams where required. Building a positive and trusting relationship with each learner. Keeping simple records of sessions and progress. Communicating with parents, carers and other professionals when required. Who We're Looking For We'd love to hear from tutors who are: Confident teaching Maths and English. Experienced working with children or young people. Experienced supporting students with SEN/SEND. Patient, friendly and approachable. Good at building positive relationships. Able to adapt their teaching to different needs and abilities. Comfortable working independently. Reliable and organised. Passionate about helping young people succeed. Able to create a calm, supportive and positive learning environment. You may be an experienced teacher, tutor, teaching assistant, SEN specialist or have another relevant educational background. An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is preferred, but we can discuss this with you if you don't currently have one. Essential Subject Expertise Maths English Additional Subjects If you can teach other subjects, such as Science, Humanities, Modern Foreign Languages, Computing or Primary subjects, please let us know. Additional subject expertise may allow you to support a wider range of referrals. Experience That Would Be Helpful QTS, PGCE or another teaching qualification. SEN/SEND training or experience. Experience working with EHCPs. Experience teaching primary, secondary or GCSE students. Experience in schools, alternative provision or specialist settings. Previous home tuition or outreach experience. Experience supporting students with anxiety, EBSA or school absence. Why Join Us?
