In a creative school, students express themselves in many ways - through film, digital media, music, design, and sometimes through behaviour when emotions feel too big to manage. Some young people walk into school carrying more than their equipment or ideas. They carry pressure, frustration, or experiences that don’t always have an easy outlet. What can look like "challenging behaviour" is often a form of communication.

We’re working with a forward-thinking secondary school in Islington who are looking for a full-time Behaviour Teaching Assistant with a Creative Media background. Someone who understands creativity, expression, and emotional regulation - and can help students channel their energy in positive, productive ways. This role would suit someone who is calm, patient, and consistent, and who believes that creativity can be a powerful tool for connection and self-expression.

Your role will include:

  • Supporting students 1:1 or in small groups who experience behavioural, emotional, or engagement challenges
  • Using creative and media-based approaches to support emotional expression and regulation
  • Acting as a calm, grounding presence during moments of dysregulation or heightened emotion
  • Helping students reflect on choices, reset, and re-engage with learning
  • Supporting pupils in lessons, workshops, and practical creative spaces
  • Working closely with pastoral teams, SENCOs, and teaching staff to ensure consistent support
  • Encouraging confidence, responsibility, and positive coping strategies
  • Recognising and celebrating progress, even when it comes in small but meaningful steps

We'd love to hear from you if you:

  • Have a background in creative media (e.g. film, photography, digital media, content creation, music tech, design)
  • Stay calm under pressure and don’t take behaviour personally
  • Have experience in youth work, mentoring, SEN, SEMH, PRUs, or similar settings (beneficial but not essential)
  • Can balance empathy with clear, consistent boundaries
  • Believe behaviour is communication, not defiance
  • Want a full-time role where you can make a genuine difference

This role isn’t about "controlling" behaviour - it’s about understanding it, supporting regulation, and helping students find positive ways to express themselves through creativity and learning. If this sounds like something you’d thrive in, we’d love to hear from you.
