SEN Teaching Assistant - Complex Needs (KS1)

Remedy Education is seeking a confident, energetic and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND provision within a mainstream primary school in Barking Riverside.
You’ll be supporting a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 class of pupils with complex special educational needs, including pre-verbal children who require additional communication support and personal care.
We’re looking for someone hands‑on, proactive and resilient who is confident working in a busy classroom and passionate about making a difference to children’s lives.
The Role
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex SEND needs.
- Support pre-verbal and non-verbal children with communication and engagement.
- Assist with intimate care, including toileting and changing.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and challenging behaviour.
- Encourage independence, social interaction and confidence.
- Assist with sensory, practical and play‑based learning activities.
- Work closely with teachers to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate
- Have strong practical experience supporting children with complex SEND needs.
- Have experience working with pre‑verbal or non‑verbal pupils.
- Be comfortable providing intimate and personal care.
- Be confident managing challenging behaviour calmly and consistently.
- Have a patient, proactive and resilient approach.
- Ideally have experience in a specialist SEN school or SEND provision.
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one.

- Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
