About Remas

Remas Carpentry Contractors Ltd is a growing carpentry contractor delivering large scale residential and construction projects throughout South Wales. We work with some of the UK's leading housebuilders, developers and main contractors across new-build housing, affordable housing and larger construction projects.

As the business continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Contracts Manager to join our management team and take responsibility for the successful delivery of multiple live projects. This is a key appointment within Remas and we're looking for someone who wants to take genuine ownership of their projects rather than simply monitor them.

The Role

As Contracts Manager, you will oversee a portfolio of carpentry packages from pre start through to completion and final account. Working closely with our Directors, Quantity Surveying team, site supervisors, clients and subcontract workforce, you will be responsible for ensuring projects are properly planned, adequately resourced and delivered safely, efficiently and to the required standard.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing multiple live carpentry contracts across Cardiff, Newport and surrounding areas
  • Acting as the main operational point of contact between Remas and our clients
  • Attending pre-start, progress and site meetings
  • Reviewing programmes and planning labour requirements
  • Coordinating supervisors, carpenters, apprentices and subcontract labour
  • Monitoring progress against programme and identifying delays or risks early
  • Ensuring drawings, specifications and current construction information are understood and followed
  • Monitoring workmanship, quality and site standards
  • Managing snagging, defects and handovers
  • Coordinating materials, information and site requirements
  • Working closely with the commercial team regarding variations, dayworks and changes to scope
  • Maintaining accurate project records and ensuring information is reported correctly
  • Supporting health & safety compliance across our projects
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with clients, site teams and our workforce
  • Helping to continually improve Remas' operational systems and processes

What We're Looking For

Ideally, you will have experience managing carpentry packages within the new-build residential or wider construction sector. A strong carpentry background would be advantageous, but we're equally interested in candidates with proven contracts management experience who understand subcontract construction and can demonstrate strong operational ability.

You should be:

  • Organised and capable of managing several projects simultaneously
  • Commercially aware
  • Confident dealing directly with clients and senior site management
  • Comfortable managing labour and subcontractors
  • Able to read and understand drawings, specifications and programmes
  • Proactive rather than reactive
  • Comfortable challenging poor standards when necessary
  • Good at identifying and solving problems
  • IT literate and comfortable using digital project records and document-management systems
  • Professional, reliable and accountable

Previous experience working with major housebuilders or main contractors would be particularly beneficial. A full UK driving licence is required.

Why Join Remas?

Remas is at an exciting stage of its development. Our workload and client base are continuing to grow, and we're building the management structure and systems required to support the next stage of the business. This isn't a role where you'll disappear into a large corporate structure. You'll work closely with the Directors and wider management team, have real influence over how projects are delivered and play an important part in the continued growth of the company. For the right person, there will be significant opportunity to develop alongside the business.
