The business delivers specialist services across consultancy, testing, compliance, research, training and instrumentation, supporting clients across the construction and building services sectors.
This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role, responsible for overseeing the technical delivery, accredited quality systems and operational performance of the product and systems testing function.
Role Overview
As Technical Manager - Applied Engineering (Building Services & Testing), you will lead technical teams and projects across accredited product and systems testing activities. You will act as a senior technical authority, providing expert guidance, ensuring quality and compliance, and supporting the commercial growth and operational excellence of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and manage technical teams to ensure high-quality and timely project delivery
- Provide senior technical expertise across building services engineering disciplines
- Oversee accredited quality systems including ISO 17025 and ISO 9001 compliance
- Develop and maintain testing procedures, documentation and operational processes
- Review and approve technical proposals, reports and test documentation
- Drive continuous improvement in efficiency, service delivery and operational performance
- Support financial planning, resource management and development of business cases
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity to inform strategic decisions
- Engage with industry stakeholders and support the organisation's external technical profile
- Ensure health, safety and environmental compliance across all operations

Essential:
- In-depth building services engineering experience from design, construction or operational background
- Strong knowledge of industry standards and quality systems, including ISO 9001
- Proven technical leadership and people management experience
- Excellent technical writing, reporting and documentation skills
- Strong project management capability with the ability to manage multiple workstreams
- Excellent communication skills with confidence working at senior and industry level
Desirable:
- Practical experience in designing, installing, commissioning or operating building services systems
- Experience working within accredited testing or compliance environments
- Established professional network within the building services industry
