  • About our Team

The Foundry team is building the shared data and AI platform that powers the next generation of products across our global markets.

We design and operate reusable, contract-driven data capabilities - enabling teams to turn proprietary data into trusted, product-ready and AI-ready assets at scale.

We are a small, high-impact platform team with a big mandate: reduce fragmentation, standardise how data works across the business, and make advanced capabilities (data, APIs, AI) available to every product team through self-service.

Working at the intersection of platform engineering, data, and AI, the Foundry team partners closely with domain experts across markets to enable faster innovation, consistent governance, and scalable delivery of data products.

About the Role

As a Platform Product Owner, you will lead the vision, strategy and delivery of the Foundry Platform backlog.

You will work across engineering, data and business teams to prioritise work, translate requirements and ensure high-quality, scalable platform capabilities are delivered.

This role plays a key part in enabling consistent, reliable and efficient use of platform services across the organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Own, manage and prioritise the Foundry Platform backlog, ensuring work is aligned to platform strategy, business goals and Town Plan outcomes.
  • Define and communicate the platform vision, roadmap, objectives and release goals in collaboration with engineering, architecture, product management, security, data owners and senior stakeholders across all Data Services brands.
  • Translate complex stakeholder and platform requirements into clear epics, user stories, acceptance criteria and definitions of done.
  • Balance delivery of new platform capabilities with operational improvements, technical debt remediation, governance requirements and service reliability.
  • Work with engineering and architecture teams to prioritise reusable capabilities across data ingestion, transformation, quality, metadata, APIs, warehouse consumption and downstream product enablement.
  • Collaborate with Data Governance, Technology, Security, Platform Engineering and Data Delivery teams during planning and delivery.
  • Run and support Agile ceremonies including backlog refinement, sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives; lead backlog reviews and support release and capacity planning.
  • Manage dependencies and track platform outcomes such as adoption, reliability, delivery efficiency, user satisfaction and data quality improvements.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Product Owner, Platform Owner, Technical Product Owner or in a similar role working with software, data or platform engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of Agile delivery methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban.
  • Experience with Git Hub Projects or similar backlog and delivery management tools.
  • Experience contributing to or owning internal platforms, data platforms, APIs, analytics platforms or shared technology services.
  • Knowledge of or interest in data ingestion, pipelines, transformation, data quality, governance and platform delivery.
  • Understanding of data product concepts, metadata, lineage, access control or platform operating models would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, Databricks, Apache Iceberg or similar modern data platform technologies is beneficial.
  • Formal training in Product Management, Product Ownership or Agile delivery is helpful but not essential.

How to prepare for a job interview at RELX

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If RELX uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
