About the Team: The Enterprise Engineering – EUC team is a collaborative group dedicated to building and supporting the AI platforms that power intelligent tools across Elsevier. We work closely with engineering, security, and product teams to ensure AI solutions are reliable, secure, and responsibly deployed. Focused on innovation and best practices, we enable teams across the business to adopt AI safely and effectively while shaping Elsevier’s enterprise-wide AI ecosystem.
About the Role: As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for operating, integrating, and evolving Elsevier’s enterprise AI platforms. You’ll handle complex escalation issues, ensure AI systems are reliable, secure, and compliant, and drive best-practice adoption across engineering, security, and product teams. Blending hands-on technical work with cross-functional collaboration, you’ll help shape Elsevier’s responsible AI ecosystem—building scalable solutions, strengthening governance, and enabling teams across the business to use AI effectively and safely.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and support enterprise AI platforms (e.g., Microsoft Power Platform, ChatGPT, Azure AI), ensuring reliability, performance, and secure integration with core systems.
- Serve as a senior escalation point for AI-related incidents, leading root-cause analysis, remediation, and continuous improvement of platform resilience.
- Implement and maintain AI integrations and interoperability, including support for open standards such as the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
- Enforce AI governance, security, and compliance, aligning solutions with RELX Responsible AI principles, data protection, and regulatory requirements.
- Design and maintain automation and CI/CD pipelines to support repeatable, secure deployment and efficient AI operations.
- Collaborate across engineering, architecture, security, and product teams to align AI standards, tooling, and operational practices.
- Enable and educate internal teams, contributing to documentation, runbooks, and best practices to support effective and responsible AI adoption.
- Implement and enforce AI governance and compliance frameworks.
Requirements:
- Strong understanding of AI interoperability standards and frameworks (e.g., Model Context Protocol, Azure AI Services such as Cognitive Search, Azure ML, OpenAI) and experience integrating AI capabilities into enterprise platforms including Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio), or comparable large-scale enterprise integration experience.
- Experience managing cloud-based enterprise platforms, including automation, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions.
- Working knowledge of PowerShell, Python, or similar scripting languages for automation and diagnostics.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools.
