About our Team

SciBite is developing cutting-edge AI and NLP technologies for solving key challenges for our life science customers. We use the latest large language models combined with our award-winning semantic technology to enable discovery within large volumes of unstructured data.

About the Role

As a Software Engineer, you will work with senior engineers to develop and maintain Python-based data solutions that integrate dynamic sources of scientific information and make them accessible to customers. You will contribute to AI-enabled development practices, collaborate with teams across Elsevier, and help deliver production-ready data products that support discovery from large volumes of unstructured data.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop our critical Python data pipelines
  • Support curation teams to update and build new vocabularies and ontologies
  • Provide support to deliver and maintain customer-facing solutions as required
  • Develop software to assist manual curation efforts
  • Develop and maintain automations across the estate
  • Learn about the wider Elsevier business and identify potential collaborations

Requirements

  • Experience in software development ideally Python
  • Excellent teamwork and problem-solving skils
  • BSc/MSc/PhD in life sciences or STEM fields

Beneficial If you have experience with the following:

  • Experience working with pytest/unittest and code reviews
  • Proficient UNIX/command line skills
  • Experience with version control, ideally GitHub
  • Experience with cloud environments
  • Python GUI development experience
  • Experience working with ontologies or XML
  • Knowledge of SQL
  • Knowledge of compute clusters and workflow management
  • Experience working in a production environment
