About the team: The team sits within the core engineering function and is in the process of building out a new AI capability with additional hires. The new members will collaborate closely with tooling engineers, security architecture teams, and software engineers. We are seeking a mid-level Gen AI Tooling Engineer (L3) to support the operationalization and scaling of GenAI-powered developer tools across the organization, including GitHub Copilot, Codex, and Claude Code. This is a full-time role focused on hands‑on configuration, support, and continuous improvement of these platforms. The successful candidate will work within a lean AI Engineering team, contributing to platform management, developer enablement, and day‑to‑day operations. The role combines practical engineering work with developer support, helping ensure these tools are adopted effectively, securely, and at scale.
Responsibilities
- Assist in configuring and operationalizing GenAI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Codex, and Claude Code.
- Contribute to great Developer Experience by making tools easy to discover, access, and use.
- Support the deployment of these platforms with appropriate security, governance, and cost considerations.
- Contribute to GitHub administration tasks, including configuration and policy enforcement.
- Provide 2nd line support for developers using AI coding tools, troubleshooting issues, and escalating where needed.
- Collaborate with developers across Elsevier to build automated AI‑first workflows and help transform the SDLC.
- Create and maintain documentation, guides, and best practices.
- Monitor platform usage, issues, and feedback to help inform improvements.
- Stay informed on new features, models, and tooling developments, and support their evaluation and rollout.
- Contribute to building a scalable support and operating model under guidance from senior engineers.
Qualifications
- Solid software engineering or DevOps background with familiarity in modern development workflows.
- Experience with GitHub and IDE‑based development environments.
- Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and software delivery practices - GitHub Actions is preferred.
- Exposure to, or interest in, AI coding assistants or LLM‑based developer tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues and provide hands‑on support to developers.
- Clear written communication skills for documentation and guidance.
