Overview

In this role, you will lead the development and operation of production AI/ML and LLM-based services for legal research and analytics. You will work with cross-functional teams to shape architecture, MLOps, and responsible AI practices, driving scalable ML solutions across enterprise platforms. You’ll ensure integration with legacy systems and AWS-hosted services while guiding AI-assisted development practices. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on delivering impactful, governed AI capabilities in a legal content context.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the initial escalation point for AI/ML engineering issues
  • Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, product stakeholders, domain experts, and platform teams to finalize requirements
  • Draft and review specifications for complex AI/ML/LLM/RAG components
  • Design, build, deploy, and operate production AI/ML and LLM services for legal content
  • Implement RAG, semantic search, embeddings-based retrieval, summarisation, and classification where appropriate
  • Create agentic workflows and multi-step AI processes that are reliable and governed
  • Integrate AI/ML with enterprise systems, APIs, databases, data platforms, and AWS services
  • Establish evaluation and quality controls for accuracy, groundedness, latency, cost, and business value
  • Promote development processes, code reviews, MLOps, and responsible AI controls
  • Apply AI-assisted tools to accelerate software development including testing, refactoring, and documentation
  • Troubleshoot complex AI/ML issues across data flows, system integration, and production support
  • Mentor engineers on AI/ML topics, SDLC, and responsible AI practices
  • Stay updated on ML engineering and AWS technologies relevant to the role
  • Ensure AI/ML solutions comply with data governance, security, and operational standards
  • Other duties as assigned

Key requirements

  • Hands-on experience in ML/AI engineering, software or data engineering
  • Experience deploying and operating ML/AI/LLM systems in production
  • Experience integrating AI/ML with enterprise systems and data platforms
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to map processes and constraints
  • Experience with AWS or cloud-hosted production environments
  • Equivalent technical experience or education considered
  • Strong communication and technical writing
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Python development for ML and production workflows
  • Software engineering fundamentals (APIs, distributed systems, testing, maintainability)
  • ML engineering and MLOps practices (model lifecycle, CI/CD, monitoring)
