A&G, STMJ Technology is a global team that builds and runs the platforms and services behind Elsevier's research and academic products. Within this, the Platform Engineering team—part of Operations—focuses on keeping our cloud environments reliable, secure, and performing at scale. The team works closely with engineering and support teams to monitor systems, respond to incidents, and continuously improve how our platforms run.

As a Systems Engineer (AWS), you will support the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of cloud‑based environments, ensuring systems remain stable, secure, and scalable. You will work closely with engineering and support teams to monitor system performance, respond to incidents, and contribute to infrastructure improvements. You will assist with troubleshooting issues, supporting system configuration and automation, and contributing to change and release activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor system health and respond to alerts to maintain stability and performance.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of system and performance issues.
  • Assist with system configuration, automation, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Collaborate with engineering and support teams to resolve issues.
  • Support incident response and system recovery activities.
  • Help improve monitoring, alerting, and reporting capabilities.
  • Contribute to capacity planning and scalability efforts.

Qualifications
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) or similar environments.

  • Exposure to tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or CI/CD pipelines.
  • Awareness of infrastructure as code and DevOps practices.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., CloudWatch, New Relic).
  • Understanding of system security, backup, and recovery practices.
