About the team: Help shape the future of Elsevier's technology infrastructure by bringing our operational data to life. The Analytics and Insights team within Technology Infrastructure and Operations (TIO) delivers actionable reporting and insights on Elsevier's technology infrastructure and operational performance. We support technology operations and infrastructure teams, Technology leadership, and wider business stakeholders with analytics on Elsevier's technology estate, including our multi-cloud environment.
About the role: As a Senior Data Analyst, you will design, build, and maintain Tableau dashboards that provide insight into Elsevier's IT and multi-cloud infrastructure estate and operational performance. You will partner with stakeholders across Technology, from operational teams to senior leadership, to translate reporting needs into effective, user-centric dashboards. Reporting areas include cloud efficiency (for example, AWS resource usage and optimization), software asset insights, and other operational performance metrics. You will develop and maintain data models using dbt to provide transparency and clarity into business metrics. You will also explore how GenAI-enabled approaches can enhance insight generation and improve how insights are delivered to stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead data visualisation and storytelling practices within the Analytics team.
- Design and deliver intuitive Tableau dashboards with a strong focus on user experience, accessibility, and visual clarity.
- Translate complex datasets into clear narratives and actionable insights for operational teams and senior stakeholders.
- Lead analytics initiatives end-to-end: discovery, requirements, iterative development, validation, release, maintenance, and user support.
- Manage senior stakeholder relationships, communicating insights, recommendations, and technical issues clearly and effectively.
- Facilitate requirements workshops and translate needs into well-defined user stories.
- Continuously improve dashboards based on user feedback, usage insights, and performance optimisation.
- Experiment with GenAI tools and novel approaches to insight generation and delivery.
- Perform data profiling, cleansing, preparation and modelling to produce analysis-ready datasets.
- Act as a Tableau and data visualisation specialist, coaching and advising other analysts on best practice.
Qualifications
- Strong Tableau expertise, with a portfolio demonstrating high-quality dashboard design and user-centric thinking.
- Experience in a data analytics, BI, or reporting role delivering insights into operational or business performance.
- Proven experience working with large, complex datasets, including data profiling and cleansing.
- Advanced SQL skills for querying large datasets and developing complex reports.
- Experience with relational databases (preferably Snowflake).
- Experience with DBT.
- Familiarity with AWS or equivalent cloud technologies.
- Experience using GenAI tools and applying them to analytics workflows (for example, insight generation, narrative drafting, dashboard support, or productivity acceleration).
- Curiosity and a strong drive to innovate, including experimenting with new techniques and approaches to improve insight quality and delivery.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences at all levels.
- Strong written communication skills, including clear documentation of definitions, logic, and dashboard guidance.
- Knowledge of Python is a plus.
