As AI Architect you shape the AI systems behind Protégé in PatentSight+, ensuring scalable, secure, and compliant architecture. You work across the stack with engineering, data science, and product teams to translate product goals into durable designs. You lead decisions on AI technologies, models, and retrieval strategies to deliver reliable patent insights. Your role emphasizes governance, security, and responsible AI while driving practical, production-ready solutions. This is a senior, influence-driven IC role with broad organizational impact.

Responsibilities
- Define the AI architecture vision for Protégé in PatentSight+, aligned with product strategy
- Evaluate AI technologies, modeling approaches, and platform components
- Stay current with agentic AI advances and translate findings into architectural recommendations
- Document architecture decisions with ADRs and design docs
- Architect agentic reasoning for multi-step patent analyses and multi-source insights
- Design retrieval and search architectures for low-latency patent intelligence across structured and unstructured data
- Define AI-driven enrichment/classification patterns at scale with auditable results
- Establish prompt engineering standards, evaluation harnesses, and quality frameworks for LLMs in production
- Collaborate with Product Management to assess feasibility and shape AI roadmap
- Partner with Security and Platform teams to meet access control, data privacy, and regulatory requirements
- Ensure compliance with RELX Responsible AI Principles and lead AI risk assessment activities
- Communicate architectural decisions clearly to stakeholders
Key requirements
- Strong software engineering background with AI/ML architecture experience
- Proven track record delivering production LLM-based systems (RAG pipelines, agentic/tool-use frameworks)
- Proficient in Python; working knowledge of C# or similar for enterprise microservices
- Hands-on experience with vector databases and semantic search
- Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP)
- Experience with large-scale data platforms (Databricks) and search engines (Elasticsearch) in analytics/AI contexts
- Ability to design enterprise-grade AI systems with security, privacy, reliability, cost governance, and observability
- Experience communicating complex architecture to diverse audiences
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Cross-functional collaboration with product, data science, and security teams
- Strategic thinking with ability to translate product goals into technical designs
- Python for AI service development
- C# or equivalent language for microservice integration
- Vector databases and semantic search pipelines
