About the Role
Are you an experienced, hands-on warehouse professional who takes pride in precision work? Our client, a specialist fine art logistics company, is looking for a dedicated Fine Art Warehouse Operative to join their team handling high-value artwork and personal effects. This isn’t your typical warehouse role – they don’t pick and pack parcels. Their operatives work with irreplaceable fine art, antiques, and valuable collections that require exceptional care, skill, and attention to detail every single day.
Location: Royston, Hertfordshire
Hours: 45-hour contract with split shift patterns (either 8am-5pm or 8:30am-5:30pm)
Salary: £13-14 per hour depending on experience
What You’ll Be Doing
- Safely handling, moving, packing, and storing high-value fine art and personal effects with extreme care and precision
- Supporting the Warehouse Manager and team with daily operations and project coordination
- Managing warehouse inventory through digital systems – booking items in/out and maintaining accurate records
- Conducting condition checks, audits, and reporting on valuable items
- Ensuring optimal space utilisation and warehouse layout efficiency
- Maintaining the highest standards of housekeeping, health & safety, and security protocols
- Assisting with client viewings and providing excellent customer service
- Collaborating with coordinators to resolve queries and investigate discrepancies
- Training and inducting new team members
What Our Client is Looking For
Essential:
- Full UK driving licence – you must be able to drive
- Previous warehouse experience in a similar hands-on role
- Strong work ethic with a proactive, hard-working attitude
- Physical fitness and ability to handle demanding manual work
- Excellent attention to detail and care when handling valuable items
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow instructions precisely
- Team player who can also work independently
- Understanding of warehouse health & safety practices
Highly Desirable:
- Removals experience – if you’ve worked in removals, you’ll already understand the strength, care, and finesse required when moving high-value and personal items, making you an ideal fit for this role
- Background in high-end packing, crating, art handling, or fine art logistics
- Experience working in industries requiring precision handling and specialist care
What Makes This Role Different
Our client is an old-school, hardworking team that takes immense pride in what they do. Every item that passes through their hands is irreplaceable – whether it’s a priceless painting, a treasured sculpture, or a client’s most valued possession. This work requires concentration, dedication, and a genuine commitment to excellence. They’re happy to train the right person – someone with the right attitude, strong work ethic, and respect for the craft. If you’re a grafter who understands the responsibility that comes with handling valuable items and you’re ready to learn specialist skills in fine art logistics, they want to hear from you.
