We are looking for a Global Head of Actuarial to build and lead our Group-wide actuarial function. This is a newly created leadership role with significant visibility across the business, Board and regulatory stakeholders. It is first and foremost a build role: Relm’s actuarial work has historically been supported by external providers, and this person will lead the transition towards a fully resourced, independent in-house actuarial function. You will take ownership of actuarial standards, reserving, capital adequacy and pricing oversight across the Group, while acting as a trusted adviser to senior leadership, the Board and regulators.
What you’ll be responsible for:
- Building the actuarial function: Design and build Relm’s Group actuarial function from the ground up. Recruit, develop and lead a team covering reserving, pricing support and capital modelling. Lead the transition from outsourced actuarial support to an in-house model. Establish consistent actuarial methodology, governance and standards across all Relm entities. Present actuarial analysis, results and recommendations to senior leadership, the Board Risk Committee and Audit Committee.
- Reserving & financial reporting: Own quarterly and annual reserve reviews across the Group. Provide actuarial oversight of reserves relating to business written through Relm and its MGA partners. Support Group and entity-level financial reporting. Oversee the Approved/Loss Reserve Specialist actuary requirements under Bermuda’s regulatory framework, where applicable.
- Capital modelling & solvency: Own the Group’s capital adequacy assessment, including BSCR and ECR calculations. Support rating agency engagement, including AM Best BCAR submissions and ERM assessments. Monitor capital adequacy and advise senior leadership on capital management, reinsurance strategy and risk appetite.
- Pricing & MGA oversight: Establish a robust actuarial pricing oversight framework. Review MGA bordereaux and management information to identify adverse development, pricing concerns or emerging trends. Provide actuarial input into new MGA onboarding, programme design, binding authority renewals and capacity structures. Partner closely with underwriting teams to develop and refine pricing tools and benchmarks.
- Governance & regulatory engagement: Act as Relm’s principal actuarial point of contact with the Bermuda Monetary Authority. Work closely with Risk, Finance, Compliance and Underwriting to strengthen the Group’s risk management framework. Ensure actuarial governance, documentation and peer review standards meet regulatory expectations. Support external audit activity while maintaining clear independence between actuarial and audit relationships.
What we’re looking for: We’re looking for a senior actuary who is equally comfortable being hands-on technically and operating at Board level. You will ideally bring:
- Significant actuarial experience within commercial, specialty or reinsurance markets.
- Strong reserving, capital modelling and regulatory experience.
- Experience working within the Bermuda regulatory environment or with the BMA would be highly advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of BSCR, ECR and capital adequacy requirements.
- Experience presenting actuarial opinions and complex technical matters to Boards, regulators and senior stakeholders.
- A track record of building or developing actuarial teams or functions.
- Strong commercial judgement and the ability to partner effectively with underwriting, finance, risk and claims.
- High levels of independence, integrity and professional judgement.
- A recognised actuarial qualification.
- Willingness to travel to Bermuda as required.
