We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Scientist - Multicellular Disease Models to join Relation’s cutting-edge experimental laboratory and contribute to our drug discovery initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of disease relevant multicellular models with multi-parametric endpoints, supporting and executing target validation experiments, generating and interpreting scientific data, and supporting the maintenance of the laboratory. Your contributions will be part of advancing our research and ensuring successful project outcomes. As part of the Relation team, you will join a team of talented professionals, including wet-lab scientists and data scientists and gain exposure to a diverse range of skills, both in and outside of your primary area of expertise. Your responsibilities:
- Work within the team to design, optimise and establish 3D multicellular and other complex cellular models that closely mimic human tissue architecture and disease states to permit the interrogation of novel target biology.
- Contribute intellectually and experimentally to the design and timely execution of all elements of mechanism of action studies by applying cellular and molecular biology techniques.
- Proficient in cellular and molecular biology to contribute to projects focused on understanding novel target biology.
- Generate, analyse & contribute biological data to Relation's novel drug discovery projects.
- Work as a member of the lab team to ensure efficient running of the lab, including a variety of responsibilities as required.
Professionally, you have:
- A PhD and at least 3-5 years additional experience with an outstanding track record in biotech, pharma or academia with demonstrable experience in assay development and/or target validation.
- Immunology expertise, as evidenced by publication in high impact journals.
- Experience with a variety of mammalian cellular models including established cell lines, patient-derived primary cells and the development of 2D or 3D multicellular assays, with functional disease relevant endpoints with the aim of ensuring required reproducibility and sensitivity in those assays.
- Experience using multi-parameter endpoints including, but not limited to flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, plate based fluorescent assays, soluble ligand analysis, RT-qPCR.
- Knowledge of gene editing tools (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9) and RNA interference for modulating gene expression in 2D and 3D cell systems.
- A proven ability to work closely within cross-functional teams to progress target validation projects and present findings to internal stakeholders.
Desirable knowledge or experiences:
- Previous Pharma or Biotech experience is desirable.
- Comfortable working in a Biotech environment.
- Familiarity with electronic lab notebook systems & SOPs.
