An established and highly regarded independent accountancy practice near Dudley is looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to take ownership of a well-run and growing payroll bureau. This is a key position within the practice, managing a varied portfolio of long-standing SME clients across multiple sectors. The role would suit an experienced payroll professional from an accountancy practice or payroll bureau environment who enjoys managing client relationships, overseeing end-to-end payroll operations, and maintaining high compliance standards.
You will have autonomy to manage the bureau efficiently while contributing ideas to improve processes and client service. Experience within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau is essential.
The Role
You will oversee a varied client payroll portfolio including weekly, four-weekly, monthly and director-only payrolls, ensuring accuracy, compliance and excellent client service throughout. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing end-to-end payroll processing across multiple client payrolls
- Processing SSP, SMP, SPP and other statutory payments
- Completing RTI submissions and ensuring HMRC compliance
- Managing PAYE, National Insurance and pension auto-enrolment obligations
- Handling payroll year-end procedures including P60s and P11Ds
- Managing workplace pension submissions and reconciliations
- Acting as the main point of contact for payroll queries from clients and employees
- Supporting clients with payroll legislation and compliance guidance
- Maintaining accurate payroll records and employee data
- Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes and efficiencies
About You
We are looking for a confident and organised payroll professional who can manage multiple deadlines while maintaining excellent attention to detail. You will ideally have:
- Previous experience in a Payroll Manager or Senior Payroll position within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau
- Strong technical knowledge of UK payroll legislation, PAYE, pensions and statutory payments
- Experience managing multiple payrolls with varying pay frequencies
- Strong payroll systems knowledge and confidence using payroll software
- Excellent communication and client relationship skills
- The ability to work independently and prioritise workloads effectively
