A Brief OverviewThis role is a key element of RGA\’s activities in the biometric and longevity space – one of the organization\’s top growth areas globally – by developing and expanding expertise in mortality and longevity research, mortality improvement trends, basis setting, and mortality/longevity reinsurance. The role is part of the global Enterprise Pricing team and has a global remit. It will involve close collaboration across multiple geographies, local teams, and research teams. The role will report to the Research Pillar lead within the Biometric Pricing Assumptions team.

What You Will Do

Take a leading role in research to enable understanding of biometric and mortality risks across multiple international markets, focusing on basis development (mortality improvements and trends).

Develop and expand expertise in modelling mortality and mortality improvements; actively follow emerging trends and concepts for longevity and mortality models, and research from internal teams, the wider industry, and actuarial bodies.

Lead sourcing, evaluation, interpretation, and communication of various types of data on key drivers of mortality outcomes.

Use industry connections to access, ascertain, and influence market thinking, keeping abreast of latest developments in mortality and longevity research.

Support Business Development teams by participating in presentations and webinars, producing thought leadership materials, and supplying relevant, timely, impactful knowledge on longevity/mortality research and assumptions.

Contribute to the team\’s global efforts in improving and expanding longevity and mortality basis development and research methods across the company.

Build relationships with local and global research teams to support knowledge sharing and consistency in basis setting, and influence the wider mortality and longevity research agenda within RGA.

Assist the Research Pillar lead in communicating team initiatives, research outcomes, and basis enhancements to senior management, pricing and business development.

Propose and develop thought leadership materials and present to external audiences.

Collaborate with pricing, business development and senior management to identify future market needs.

Lead peer reviews of work produced by the EP team, local research teams or pricing teams.

Support other internal stakeholders—including valuation or capital teams—on ad‐hoc projects or by sharing details regarding specific bases.

Lead or assist with special projects and research and development as required.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor\’s degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, finance, or a related field.

6+ years of experience in life (re)insurance, pensions, or related fields.

3+ years of hands‐on experience in longevity, re(insurance), research, or consultancy.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in assumption setting in the longevity or mortality space, with strong experience developing mortality trend assumptions.

Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, Society of Actuaries, or an equivalent actuarial qualification.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced knowledge of longevity and/or annuity products.

Experience in actuarial applications including AXIS, Prophet, or MoSes.

Proficiency in a programming language such as R or Python.

Experience leading project teams remotely.

Expert level analytical and problem-solving skills with a curious, innovative, and flexible approach.

Strong business acumen and understanding of the importance of applying research to solve business issues.

Ability and flexibility to travel nationally (and on occasion internationally) depending on base location.
