A Brief Overview: This Bermuda-based Paralegal provides legal, governance, and regulatory support to RGA's Bermuda operations. The role is focused on board and committee reporting, being a liaison with the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA), assisting with compliance initiatives, and providing direct support to the Chief Legal Counsel and the Head of Compliance. The position also includes executive support responsibilities to the Chief Legal Counsel to enable efficient execution of legal and regulatory priorities. This role would report to the Head of Compliance.

What you will do:

  • Board & Governance Reporting: Prepare and coordinate board and committee materials, including agendas, papers, and minutes. Draft resolutions and maintain governance documentation for Bermuda entities. Maintain and track board and committee action items and regulatory commitments. Support development of board-level reporting on legal, compliance, and regulatory matters.
  • Regulatory & BMA Liaison: Assist in coordination of regulatory submissions, applications, and correspondence with the BMA. Support preparation of responses to regulatory queries and requests. Track regulatory deliverables and ensure timely execution of commitments. Monitor Bermuda regulatory developments and support internal impact assessments.
  • Compliance Support: Support maintenance and enhancement of compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures. Assist in drafting responses to inbound Know Your Customer (KYC) requests, AML questionnaires, and other such requests. Support compliance monitoring activities and reporting processes. Prepare materials for compliance reporting to senior management and the Board. Assist in aligning internal documentation with regulatory expectations and internal governance standards. Contribute to compliance training materials and awareness initiatives.
  • Outsourcing Management: Maintain an outsourcing log of all internal and external outsourcing agreements for Bermuda entities. Assist in creation and review of third-party and intracompany agreements. Track and enhance current agreements against Bermuda requirements. Monitor Bermuda regulatory developments and support readiness for changes in regulation, systems, and/or best practices.
  • Executive Support: Provide coordination and administrative support including meeting preparation and follow-ups. Prepare briefing materials, summaries, and presentations for stakeholders. Track key legal and regulatory initiatives and deliverables.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in Law, Business, Finance, or a related discipline; or equivalent experience required.
  • 5+ Years of relevant experience in a legal, compliance, or regulatory environment required.
  • Experience within insurance, reinsurance, or financial services (preference for Bermuda-regulated entities) required.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting compliance monitoring, regulatory reporting, or corporate governance processes required.
  • Experience supporting board reporting and/or regulator interaction preferred.
  • Bermudian status or right to work in Bermuda preferred, consistent with local employment requirements.
  • Position designed to support evolving regulatory and governance requirements of Bermuda operations required.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to review information, identify issues, and apply policies and procedures to resolve problems required.
  • Attention to Detail: Produces accurate, high-quality work with minimal supervision required.
  • Judgment: Applies sound professional judgment within defined guidelines and escalates appropriately required.
  • Communication: Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills, particularly in preparing governance and regulatory materials required.
  • Organization & Planning: Manages multiple priorities effectively and meets deadlines in a structured environment required.
  • Collaboration: Works effectively with cross-functional teams and contributes to team objectives required.
  • Paralegal certification or relevant legal qualification preferred.
  • Working towards or interest in professional certifications (e.g., ICA, ACAMS, or equivalent) is advantageous preferred.
