A well-established refurbishment and commercial fit-out contractor is seeking an experienced Estimator to join its team at its Basildon head office. The company delivers commercial refurbishment, maintenance and fit-out projects across London and the Southeast, typically valued up to £500,000. Its projects span commercial, education and public-sector environments, including work within live and occupied buildings.
THE ROLE
You will take responsibility for pricing and preparing competitive tenders for refurbishment and fit-out projects, working closely with clients, subcontractors, Project Managers and Contracts Managers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documents
- Completing accurate measurements and take-offs
- Pricing labour, materials and subcontract packages
- Issuing and managing subcontractor enquiries
- Analysing quotations and identifying commercial risks
- Preparing tender submissions, clarifications and cost breakdowns
- Attending site visits and pre-tender meetings
- Liaising with clients and the operational team throughout pre-construction
- Supporting tender handovers following successful bids
REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate will have previous estimating experience gained within refurbishment, commercial fit-out, internal specialist subcontracting. You should also have:
- Experience across a mixture of internal packages, including dry lining, partitions, flooring and decorating
- A strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing and trade interfaces
- The ability to interpret drawings, specifications and scopes of work
- Good measurement, pricing and numerical skills
- Strong knowledge of Excel and other standard Microsoft Office programs
- Confident communication and subcontractor negotiation skills
- Experience using take-off or estimating software would be advantageous
Applications are welcomed from experienced Estimators, Quantity Surveyors with strong tendering experience and Project Managers who have commercially managed refurbishment or fit-out projects throughout their lifecycle. An HNC, HND or degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related subject would be beneficial, although relevant practical experience will carry equal weight.
