A growing refurbishment and commercial fit-out contractor is looking for an Assistant Estimator to join its commercial team in Basildon. This is an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Estimator, Assistant Quantity Surveyor or construction professional with relevant pricing and commercial experience who wants to develop a long-term career in estimating.
The company delivers commercial refurbishment, maintenance and fit-out projects across London and the Southeast. Projects are typically valued up to £500,000 and include work across commercial, education and public-sector environments.
THE ROLE
Working alongside experienced members of the commercial team, you will assist with the preparation of estimates and tender submissions for refurbishment and fit-out projects. Your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender information
- Completing measurements and take-offs
- Assisting with the pricing of labour, materials and subcontract packages
- Sending enquiries to subcontractors and suppliers
- Comparing and analysing quotations
- Helping to prepare tender submissions and cost breakdowns
- Attending site visits when required
- Maintaining accurate tender and pricing information
- Supporting the handover of successful projects to the operational team
REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate should have some estimating experience within refurbishment, fit-out or specialist subcontracting. You will ideally have:
- Experience or knowledge of a mixture of internal packages, including dry lining, partitions, flooring and decorating
- A basic understanding of construction sequencing and trade packages
- The ability to read drawings and understand specifications
- Good numerical and analytical skills
- Working knowledge of Excel, Word and digital construction tools
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn
- Good communication and organisational skills
Applications are welcomed from Assistant Estimators, Assistant Quantity Surveyors, Trainee Estimators and site-based construction professionals with suitable commercial or internal fit-out experience. An HNC, HND or degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline would be beneficial, although practical industry experience will also be considered.
