Are you someone who likes to support the community and would like to work with a team of energetic, dedicated staff and volunteers, who deliver a range of other activities and services within our local communities? This is a great opportunity to join the dedicated and friendly community centre team in the role of casual cook. The Cafe and Catering Assistant will be working in the community centre's busy café in this varied role. Providing excellent customer service is central to the role, which involves serving customers, making drinks, working on the till, maintaining a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the café area and kitchen.
Responsibilities
- To work with the centre's manager to provide the catering offer, ensuring tasty, healthy, and varied meals are provided and served.
- To help prepare and serve a range of cold meals, snack bar lunches, snacks, cakes and beverages.
- Liaise with kitchen staff, management, and customers to ensure the smooth running of the catering function, and deal with any customer concerns.
- Provide excellent service to all café and centre customers - taking their orders, answering questions, handling cash and card transactions, serving food and drinks, and clearing tables, in a friendly, polite and efficient manner.
- Maintain a calm, organised and professional approach at all times, including during busy periods.
- To maintain and clean the café area and all equipment including appliances in a clean, tidy and safe state.
- To clear tables and wash up (washing up is done by hand prior to sterilising), and to ensure that tea-towels, tablecloths etc. are laundered daily, working cooperatively with other staff and volunteers.
- To undertake all duties in compliance with Safer Food, Better Business food safety procedures and Level 2 Food Hygiene (Training will be provided if necessary), including monitoring, evaluation and record keeping for compliance with Safer Food, Better Business food hygiene regulations.
You will be highly motivated and capable, able to work well on your own and as a supportive member of a wider team. You should be adaptable to the task in hand and willing to learn. You are confident to make process improvement suggestions where necessary; First Aid qualification and Food Hygiene qualification to level 2 or higher.
