We are looking for a proactive and detail‑focused Accounts Assistant to join our Finance team at Clarke Energy. This role plays a key part in supporting the smooth running of the Accounts function, with a particular focus on the purchase ledger, supplier management and expense processing. It’s an excellent opportunity for someone with strong attention to detail who enjoys working in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment within a global engineering organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Purchase Ledger
    • Process high volumes of purchase invoices accurately and efficiently.
    • Ensure invoices are correctly coded to the general ledger.
    • Act as the main point of contact for the Company’s key supplier.
    • Maintain strong internal and external relationships to support efficient trading activity.
    • Resolve pricing, quantity and invoice discrepancies promptly.
    • Review supplier statements and ensure balances are accurate and reconciled.
  • Expenses
    • Collate, review and process employee expense claims in line with Company policy.
    • Post expenses accurately to the appropriate general ledger accounts.
    • Reconcile employee expenses to company credit card statements.
    • Follow up on outstanding expense submissions and approvals ahead of month‑end.
  • Payments & Cash Control
    • Prepare weekly multi‑currency payment runs in accordance with approval processes and payment terms.
    • Ensure key suppliers are paid on time to avoid service disruption.
    • Support cash flow forecasting through the provision of accurate creditor information.
  • Month‑End & Reporting
    • Assist with month‑end close activities relating to creditors and expenses.
    • Provide analysis of key supplier balances when requested.
    • Support internal and external audits by supplying documentation and explanations.
    • Undertake ad hoc finance tasks in support of the wider Accounts team.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant, Purchase Ledger or Accounts Payable role.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly when handling large volumes of data.
  • Confident user of Microsoft Excel, including formulas and VLOOKUPs.
  • Strong reconciliation skills with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Well organised, able to prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines.
  • Professional judgement with the confidence to escalate issues where appropriate.
  • A strong commitment to confidentiality and data protection.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a fast‑paced or high‑volume finance environment.
  • Experience using ERP systems, ideally Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Ability to prepare basic reporting and analysis for internal stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach to improving processes and efficiency.
  • Studying towards or holding an accountancy qualification (e.g. AAT).
