The Role
You are accountable to the team manager. As a team leader you will lead and support a team of staff while also engaging in direct care. You will ensure that services are delivered in a proactive, responsive and person centred way that are enriching to the lives of the people we support. You'll hold your own caseload of staff supporting their development and confidence and work closely with colleagues, families and professionals to deliver high quality care aligned with our organisational values and CQC standards.
Key responsibilities
- Staff leadership & support
- Lead, supervise, coach and support staff to deliver high quality person centred care.
- Ensure clear communication so staff are confident in their duties.
- Undertake supervisions, appraisals and staff development.
- Support your staff team to uphold RehabilityUK values at all times.
- Manage rotas to ensure safe, effective and fair staffing levels.
- Act as a key member of the rostering team ensuring these are used to the best effect for the physical, social and emotional care of the people we support.
- Manage all areas of the rostering process, ensuring appropriate shift cover and accurate, first-time payroll through the timely submission of correct rota information.
- Ensure agency use is only when necessary and that agency staff receive proper induction.
- Provide flexible cover when needed due to sickness, holidays or emergencies.
- Responsible for clear lines of communication ensuring employees are fully conversant with their duties.
- Ensure care is delivered in line with personalised care plans and organisational policies.
- Oversee medication administration, documentation and controlled drugs management.
- Support CQC compliance, safeguarding processes and quality assurance activities.
- Conduct risk assessments, health & safety checks (including fire safety, vehicles & household) and ensure all incidents/accidents are properly reported.
- Participate in team meetings, reviews and the local on call rota.
- Promote independence, choice, dignity and inclusion for all individuals.
- Provide compassionate, person centred support with all aspects of daily living including personal care where required.
- Support the people we support to develop personal and social skills both at home and in the community.
- Use positive and proactive approaches to manage distressed behaviours ensuring safety, respect and wellbeing at all times.
- Work collaboratively with MDT professionals, social workers and families to achieve the best outcomes for each person.
- Continuously monitor and review care needs in partnership with each individual to ensure their support remains appropriate and effective.
Person specification (Essential)
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Minimum 2 years' experience supporting adults with autism and/or learning disabilities in supported living, residential or outreach settings.
- Proven supervisory or team leader experience within adult social care.
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent) or working towards.
- Experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong knowledge of autism, learning disabilities and positive behaviour support (PBS).
- Strong understanding of the CQC single assessment framework including quality statements and evidence categories, alongside safeguarding and quality assurance.
- Ability to manage staff rotas and maintain effective service coverage.
- Excellent leadership, coaching and communication skills.
- Demonstrates flexibility in working hours including participation in on call rotas, evening and weekend cover along with working across varying shift patterns as required.
- Competent IT skills and experience with digital care management systems.
- Commitment to respecting dignity, promoting independence and providing person-centred care.
