Duration: Fixed Term (Maternity Cover 12-15 months)

Working Pattern: 35 hours per week. We are a flexible employer and will consider a variety of working patterns; compressed hours, term time working or part time working on a case-by-case basis, depending on the role and departmental requirements.

Location: Hybrid working model. Contractual base either at Meadowbank House, Edinburgh (EH8 7AU), or St Vincent Plaza, Glasgow (G2 5LD). You will be expected to occasionally visit either of these office locations and also attend events in other locations as per the requirements of the role.

The role: This role is responsible for the day-to-day running of our enterprise support activity, including our early-stage startup accelerator programme, ensuring it’s smooth and efficient running and ability to deliver growth. Working with our sponsors Registers of Scotland and Ordnance Survey, as well as a broad range of external partners, you’ll play a key role in identifying the next generation of disruptive land, property and location tech startups. You’ll have relevant experience in an accelerator environment working with key stakeholders, a passion for working with start and scaleups and will follow the Scottish tech startup scene.

On a typical day you will…

  • Work with the Geovation Scotland Team to help shape accelerator programme content and delivery.
  • Lead the accelerator programme recruitment and selection process, working with the Geovation Community and Alumni Engagement Manager to pro-actively seek out strong candidates for Geovation support.
  • Accelerator programme proposition design and management. Continuously improving our accelerator programme based on the feedback of participants to deliver the best outcomes for startups and our stakeholders/sponsors.
  • Be the first point of contact for start-ups on the programme, assessing their requirements and providing support with development areas such as their business model, data integration/access, financial modelling, IP, and other aspects of product and company development.
  • Act as the conduit between technical provision and technical/non-technical founders.
  • Measure outcomes from the accelerator programme, tracking progress using Innovation Readiness Levels.
  • Manage the budget for the accelerator programme (mentors fees, showcase events, funding allocations etc).
  • Collaborate with Geovation London colleagues on programme funding and opportunities to align programme activities where valuable.
  • Identify and maximise opportunities for programme growth through network of contacts and additional services.
  • Identify opportunities for the development of additional enterprise support activities, working with both our partners and other parts of the tech ecosystem.
  • Communicate Geovation Scotland’s mission, purpose and its ‘open innovation’ philosophy across the teams both internally with our key partners and externally.
  • Build and maintain a national network of contacts operating incubators, accelerators, hubs and co-working spaces.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., startups, government, academia, and larger corporates) to align activities and identify opportunities for partnership or collaboration.
  • Oversee marketing and communications activities.
  • Work with the Head of Innovation and Geovation Scotland and RoS Business Development colleagues to identify, assess and implement collaboration, partnership and business growth opportunities.
  • Management of Geovation Scotland Community and Alumni Engagement Manager role.
  • Provide mentorship/coaching to Geovation and Business Development colleagues where appropriate.

  • Experience of successfully running a tech incubator, accelerator or similar programme.
  • Network connections – the ability to connect businesses with the wider Scottish business/tech ecosystem.
  • Understanding of start-ups and the key factors influencing their survival, growth and operational challenges.
  • Knowledge of Value Proposition design & Business Model canvas techniques and methodologies.
  • A strong understanding of the challenges entrepreneurs face, coupled with a naturally empathetic and supportive approach. Proactive in offering guidance, with a forward-thinking, entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Proven ability to foster strong partnerships, with extensive experience in building and managing connections with external stakeholders to drive collaboration and success.

  • Analysis and making effective decisions: Proactive approach to problem solving and identifying solutions. Measurement of outcomes from all enterprise activity, using Innovation Readiness Levels (IRLs) and other measurement tools. Monitoring KPIs for Customer Success and Customer Satisfaction.
