The Assistant Athletic Trainer works under the supervision of the Chief Athletic Trainer and supervises the care of student-athletes competing in the University's athletic program. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries within the University's comprehensive Sports Medicine program. This position requires the ability to make critical and potentially life altering decisions during emergency situations. This is a full-time, 10-month (August 1-May 31), benefit-eligible position.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries within the intercollegiate athletics program at Regis.
  • Provide emergency care for athletic related injuries and make appropriate referrals when necessary.
  • Make daily decisions including the diagnosis of injury and illness and the appropriate therapy and treatment for these injuries and illnesses.
  • Determine the ability of student-athletes to safely participate in athletics and communicate limitations to coaches and student athletes.
  • Communicate with team physician(s) to ensure proper evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injured student athletes.
  • Work with Regis Community Health Services, Counseling Services, and consulting physicians when necessary.
  • Assist with institutional and NCAA drug testing program when necessary.
  • Provide Sports Medicine coverage for games/matches including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Maintain detailed medical records including athletic injuries and treatments provided. Follow HIPAA guidelines as required.
  • Attend scheduled team practices and competitions, including but not limited to all home events for sports as assigned by Chief Athletic Trainer.
  • Provide supervision to ATEP students during clinical rotations as well as Regis College student interns when necessary.
  • Assist with the operation of the Sports Medicine facility.
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the Chief Athletic Trainer and Dean of Athletics.

Supervisory Responsibility

Supervise Athletic Training Students during clinical rotations. Supervise Regis College students during internship hours and provide an administrative presence for Graduate Interns and Assistants when needed.

Qualifications Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a CAAHEP accredited Athletic Training Program, Master's preferred.
  • Certification through the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) required.
  • Must be able to meet the requirements for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and obtain license prior to anticipated start date.
  • Prior athletic training experience in a collegiate setting preferred, comparable work experience considered.
  • Certification in Professional Rescuer Level or HealthCare Provider/BLS, CPR and AED required. CPR/First Aid/AED Instructor certification preferred.
  • Must perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with NCAA, GNAC, and institutional rules and regulations.
  • Strong organizational skills and computer literacy required. Experience with electronic record-keeping systems (HealthyRoster, Impact, SWAY specifically) a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible and irregular schedule as a team member or independently.
  • Ability to problem solve, prioritize and complete multiple tasks within an established deadline while carefully attending to detail.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to lift in excess of 40 lbs. and requires working on nights and weekends.
