Are you an experienced Mechanical Estimator with a background in building services or mechanical installation? Regional Recruitment Services are recruiting on behalf of a well-established engineering services provider for a Mechanical Estimator to join their growing team in Cheshire. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a professional environment pricing a wide range of mechanical projects across building services and industrial systems. This role offers strong long-term career prospects, the opportunity to work on complex mechanical projects, and involvement in the full tendering process from initial enquiry through to submission. You will play a key role in preparing accurate cost estimates and supporting project teams in delivering commercially successful work.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed mechanical estimates for building services and industrial mechanical projects
- Analyse tender documentation, drawings, and specifications to identify project requirements
- Carry out quantity take-offs from mechanical drawings and specifications
- Build accurate cost estimates including labour, materials, plant, and subcontractor packages
- Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Identify risks, cost-saving opportunities, and value engineering options
- Work to strict tender deadlines and ensure accurate submission of estimates
- Liaise with internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors throughout the tender process
Requirements
- HNC / HND / BTEC in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services (or equivalent experience)
- NVQ Level 3-6 in Mechanical Services or Building Services Engineering advantageous
- Experience within mechanical installation, building services, or HVAC sectors
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, pipework, pumps, boilers, and ductwork
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and specifications
- Experience measuring quantities and producing detailed take-offs
- Strong Excel skills (essential)
- Experience using estimating or measurement software (e.g., Trimble or similar)
- Understanding of commercial elements such as labour costing, supplier pricing, and subcontractor management
- Knowledge of construction contracts such as JCT or NEC beneficial
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines
