As we continue to grow, we are seeking experienced and skilled Form F Assessors to join our freelance team.

Role Overview

The Freelance Form F Assessor will undertake high-quality Form F assessments for prospective foster carers in line with statutory guidance, agency policies, and best practice standards. You will work independently while being fully supported by our friendly and knowledgeable team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive Form F assessments (Stage 2) for prospective foster carers.
  • Conduct home visits, interviews, and evidence-gathering with applicants and relevant household members.
  • Analyse applicants’ suitability, strengths, vulnerabilities, and capacity to meet the needs of looked-after children.
  • Prepare clear, robust, and well-written assessment reports to a high professional standard.
  • Record electronically all visits including issues covered, action plans for any gaps, log of all other contacts (telephone calls, emails etc.) made in connection with the assessment.
  • Carry out a number of visits; these may be virtually or in person (amount of virtual will be agreed with Manager). Visits will include: joint applicants seen separately on at least one occasion, applicant’s own children seen individually, dependent on age.
  • Undertake personal reference interviews and interview any other significant adults or family members as appropriate.
  • Complete health and safety checklist along with a pet assessment, if applicable, ensuring relevant documents are received.
  • Complete a genogram with details of the applicants' parents, siblings, children, and other significant members of their family.
  • Complete an ecomap to illustrate applicants' support network.
  • Assist the applicants with completing their Carer Welcome Book and Household safe care plan.
  • Attend a mid-way supervision to discuss progress of the assessment and any concerns or issues that have arisen.
  • Present assessment to the Fostering Panel and respond to panel queries.
  • Explain the panel process to applicants and ensure they understand the expectations of the panel.
  • Work collaboratively with the agency’s social workers, managers, and administrative team.
  • Maintain accurate records and adhere to safeguarding, confidentiality, and data-protection requirements.
  • Represent Regional Fostering Services with professionalism, integrity, and sensitivity.

Requirements

  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Strong understanding of fostering regulations, National Minimum Standards, and safeguarding frameworks.
  • Excellent analytical, interviewing, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage your own schedule, and meet deadlines.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
