Norwich Full-Time On-site
R

We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Projects Manager to join our team, playing a key role in delivering technology projects across our multi-site airport operations.

This is a varied, hands-on leadership role where you'll take direct responsibility for managing a portfolio of complex technical projects while also leading, mentoring and developing our wider technical project team.

Reporting to the IT & Information Security Director, you'll work closely with our IT Operations Manager and Cyber Security Manager to strengthen project delivery, enhance processes and drive continuous improvement across our IT Department.

Location: Exeter Airport, Norwich Airport or Bournemouth Airport

As Technical Projects Manager, you'll combine hands-on project delivery with team leadership, ensuring technology projects are delivered successfully while helping develop a consistent and effective approach to project management.

Your key responsibilities

  • Leading Technical Projects: Manage complex IT and technical infrastructure projects from initiation through to completion, ensuring delivery against agreed timelines, budgets, quality standards and objectives.
  • Managing Project Delivery: Take ownership of project scope, resources, budgets, risks, dependencies and deliverables, developing detailed project plans, delivery schedules and financial forecasts.
  • Leading & Developing Teams: Coordinate technical resources across multiple projects, allocate workloads and coach and mentor colleagues to strengthen project management and technical delivery capabilities.
  • Driving Project Governance: Establish consistent project management processes, documentation, reporting standards and structured change-control procedures.
  • Managing Budgets & Performance: Oversee project budgets, resource allocation and financial forecasting, producing meaningful KPI dashboards and performance reports for operational and executive meetings.
  • Engaging Stakeholders: Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers, technical teams and senior stakeholders, translating business requirements into clearly defined and achievable technology projects.
  • Managing Suppliers & Contractors: Oversee third-party project delivery, coordinate engineers and contractors, and work collaboratively with technology partners to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Improving Ways of Working: Identify opportunities to enhance project delivery processes, improve project management tools and reporting, and embed lessons learned into future projects.
  • Supporting Team Development: Contribute to the recruitment, coaching and professional development of project delivery personnel, helping build a high-performing and collaborative technical team.

We're looking for a confident, commercially minded and proactive Technical Projects Manager who can balance hands-on project delivery with effective team leadership.

You’ll have a strong technical foundation, excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities while building positive relationships across the business.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • A proven technical background, with experience leading and managing complex IT or technical projects from inception through to completion.
  • Previous experience leading or managing a project management or technical delivery team.
  • Strong experience managing project budgets, resources, risks and programmes of work.
  • Experience using project management software to plan, track, document and manage projects.
  • The ability to produce clear KPI dashboards, project updates and performance reporting for team and executive-level meetings.
  • Strong stakeholder and customer management experience, with the confidence to engage effectively at all organisational levels.
  • Experience coordinating technical teams, engineers, contractors and external delivery partners.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, practical updates and recommendations.
  • The ability to understand technical requirements, assess risks and translate business ideas into deliverable IT projects.
  • Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills, with a genuine commitment to developing others.
  • The ability to remain actively involved in project delivery while effectively managing resources across multiple projects through a matrix-management approach.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the confidence to take ownership and drive projects forward.
  • A proactive, accountable and commercially aware approach, with a focus on delivering value and continuous improvement.

It would also be great if you have:

  • A recognised project management qualification, such as PRINCE2 Practitioner, APM PMQ, PMP, AgilePM Practitioner or equivalent.
  • A leadership or management qualification.
  • Experience configuring and using Jira for project management, KPI dashboards and reporting.
  • Previous experience working within aviation, transport or critical infrastructure environments.
  • Knowledge of NIS/NIS2 regulations or operational technology (OT) security environments.

Why Join Us?

This is more than an opportunity to manage IT projects. It's a chance to influence how technology projects are delivered and help strengthen our project management capabilities across a complex, multi-site airport environment.

You’ll have the opportunity to lead challenging and varied projects, develop a talented technical team and play an important role in delivering technology improvements that support our airport operations.

Working alongside experienced IT and cyber security professionals, you'll be encouraged to bring forward new ideas, improve ways of working and make a tangible difference.

With a choice of being based at Exeter, Norwich or Bournemouth Airport, this is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to combine technical project delivery, people leadership and continuous improvement.

If you're an experienced Technical Projects Manager who enjoys taking ownership, delivering complex technology projects and developing high-performing teams, we'd love to hear from you.
