The Company

A well respected and long-established regional building contractor set up as a family business and still running with those values today. The Company is a profitable, well-run organisation, operating primarily in London and the South East with clients across multiple sectors but particularly in heritage, education and healthcare. Further to internal promotions there is now an exciting opportunity to join as Divisional Manager with responsibility for clients in London.

The Position

As Divisional Manager (London) you will oversee a division with a current turnover in excess of £15m, managing a number of projects at any one time whilst leading a team of around 20 made up of Site Managers, Contract Managers, Quantity Surveyors and general operatives.

You will be based from offices in Hertfordshire, well placed for travel in and out of London and your primary focus will be ensuring the commercial viability of the projects, ensuring profitability and timely execution of the works.

Key responsibilities will include;

Financial/Budget & Cost Control:

Develop a yearly business plan including turnover and profit projections. Review, recommend and monitor budgets and produce quarterly CVR summary to be included within overall company accounts

Operations/Project Management: Manage and direct day-to-day activities of division staff in line with established policies and procedures. Effectively manage overall planning and implementation of division projects. Provide division with appropriate staff, resources, and direction required to fulfill operational goals. Oversee performance construction phase of contract commitments to ensure profitability and timely execution of work. Maintain close contact with clients and architects during all phases of negotiated contracts.

Estimating:

Provide estimating and pre-construction support and oversee the preparation of all bids, estimates and budgets including quality submissions.

Business Development/Marketing: Support the Business Development team and represent company in new business opportunities through contacts with parties who are a critical part of new project possibilities. Secure follow-up work with existing clients based on performance.

The Candidate

As a potentially suitable candidate you must have experience in Divisional Management, Operations / Commercial Management or Project Management in the construction sector (ideally not residential / housing). You must have strong commercial management skills and excellent management and leadership skills.

The position offers a realistic development pathway to the role of Divisional Director which could be achieved in the short to medium term based on results.
