A well-established professional services business is hiring a Network Infrastructure Engineer to take full ownership of its network as it grows across the UK, Europe and the US.
The estate is almost entirely cloud, secured by Palo Alto, with offices in several countries. You would be the network specialist in a small, capable infrastructure team, and the network would be yours: how it is built, how it is changed, and the policies and procedures that hold it together. As the team grows, there is a real path to leading it.
What you would be running:
- The Palo Alto estate end to end, from security policy and VPNs through to routing, upgrades and remote access.
- Cloud networking in Azure, including virtual networks, routing, security and connectivity back to the offices.
- Building and changing the cloud network through Terraform, and automating the manual work that is still left.
- BGP and site-to-site connectivity linking the offices, firewalls and cloud.
What they need from you:
- Hands-on Palo Alto experience at configuration level. Routing, VPNs and troubleshooting you have done yourself, not just rule changes.
- Strong cloud networking on at least one major platform. Azure is ideal, but solid AWS networking is genuinely considered. You understand the building blocks well enough to design a network in the cloud.
- Infrastructure as code, ideally Terraform. With the estate almost entirely in the cloud, networks here are built and changed through code rather than by clicking through a portal.
- Solid routing, BGP in particular.
Useful but not essential: Cisco Meraki, scripting in Python or similar, Cloudflare, and experience of a business scaling toward enterprise.
