Regents Theological College is the Elim Movement’s national training centre and offers a variety of short, online and accredited courses training people for ministry and mission. Regents offer undergraduate programmes in Theology and Performing Arts and postgraduate programmes in Applied Theology. Applicants for the TRA will need to apply to study as a postgraduate student at Regents. Any offer made relating to the Teaching & Research Assistant role is conditional upon being accepted for and remaining a student on the postgraduate programme. Please note that applications for the postgraduate programme are a separate process to the application for this role.

Preference will be given to those who are applying to begin postgraduate study at Regents but existing MA students at Regents are also welcome to apply.

Role Description

The Teaching and Research Assistant is responsible for assisting faculty by contributing to the UG teaching programme as well as undertaking research for lectures, publications and other research projects. The role will be accountable to an appropriate faculty member depending on the successful applicant’s experience and skills. Key elements of the role include:

  • To assist module leaders in planning and delivering lectures on the undergraduate programme (Theology and/or Performing Arts. No more than six hours of teaching per module with a minimum of 12 hours of teaching across the academic year.
  • To assist faculty in carrying out research for specific projects or publications.
  • To assist faculty with administration of track related programmes and tasks
  • To engage with undergraduate students in tutor groups and 1-2-1 settings under the supervision of faculty
  • To assist with marking Ministry Foundation Certificate assessments
  • To assist with marking Level 4 assessments (under supervision).
  • To assist teaching staff with collation of materials for use in support of modules.

The Person

The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in further education and be a committed individual with attention to detail. The candidate will be passionate about theology and theological study as well as pursing experience and skills within teaching and/or research environment.

  • A BA degree in a relevant discipline
  • A genuine desire to study on the Postgraduate programme at Regents Theological College (separate application process)
  • Previous study at or experience of a Christian Theological/Bible College
  • Experience working in a faith based environment or Church context
  • Evidence of research and/or teaching experience.

Due to the nature of the role, the expectation is that the successful applicant would live onsite as part of our academic community in Malvern.

An occupational requirement exists for the post-holder to be a Christian who assents to the Elim basis of faith in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Responsible to:

The TRA will be line managed by a designated faculty member each year they are employed. The TRA is ultimately responsible to the Undergraduate Dean as they contribute to the Undergraduate Programme.

Term

40-week fixed-term. There is an initial probationary period of one month after which the contract is fixed for the remainder of the term. Termination of the contract either during the probationary period or after each term thereafter will not mean a termination of studies on the relevant postgraduate course at Regents. The postgraduate study of the TRA is not conditional or impacted by being a TRA, however the role of TRA is conditional upon continued postgraduate study at Regents Theological College, passing relevant modules and payment of all associated fees.

Hours

The TRA contract is for 12 hours a week across a 40-week period. These hours can be flexible across the week but certain time commitments will be required in consultation with their line manager including postgraduate lectures and assessment deadlines.

Accommodation

The successful candidate will be required to live in self-catering accommodation on the Regents Theological College Malvern Campus.

Conduct

The TRA is required to conduct themselves in a manner appropriate to a Christian Higher Education institution and may not do or say anything that would be detrimental to the ethos and reputation of Regents Theological College. Breach of this clause will result in disciplinary action which could lead to dismissal.
