The Peninsula Heart Clinic is an independently operated cardiology centre in partnership with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. Treatment at the Peninsula Heart Clinic is delivered through a state-of-the-art cardiac cath lab, 5-bed recovery, 5-chair radial lounge, 3 individual ensuite bedrooms and extensive outpatient clinic facilities.

We are now recruiting for an experienced Radiographer to join our highly skilled radiography team. This is an excellent opportunity to join an established team as we grow our service. Working in a purpose-built facility you will be welcomed as an integral part of the team, delivering high quality care to patients in the South West.

Main duties of the job:

  • Be part of the multi-disciplinary team providing outstanding care to our patients.
  • Work within the Catheter lab providing imaging for PCI, Angiograms, Pacing/Complex Devices and Electrophysiology & Ablation services.
  • Work closely with the Peninsula Heart Clinic Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS).

Requirements & Responsibilities:

CLINICAL
  • To ensure the provision of an effective Radiography service within the Cardiac Cath Labs.
  • To produce and promote images of the highest technical quality, adapting and tailoring the examination to the needs of the patient taking into account their physical and medical condition.
  • To provide expert and clinical specialist catheter lab radiographic knowledge and advice to the department and hospital including referrers, other clinical staff, patients and their relatives.
  • To undertake specialised catheter lab radiographic techniques and teach such skills to radiographers within the department.
  • To provide professional leadership, training and induction for all radiographic staff seconded to the catheter lab on a rotational and permanent basis.
  • To work unsupervised.
  • To monitor all radiographic standards within the catheter labs, identifying any problems and instituting remedial action as required to maintain and improve quality.
  • To observe all Local Rules for Radiation Protection, ensuring they are complied with, and that radiation safety is of paramount importance.
  • To be responsible for the organisation of work programmes for the suites, including checking and monitoring of all request forms.
  • To contribute to the coordination of the catheter labs, working with the other professional leads, senior catheter lab management, and cardiologists.
  • To provide statistics relating to the service as requested by senior staff including the analysis of referrals, room utilisation and workload, disseminating data as required.
  • To work with the Lead Consultants to provide clinical specialist advice on equipment requirements.
  • To advise medical staff on the technical and clinical applications and limitations of imaging procedures with particular reference to catheter lab radiography.
  • To abide by all Trust and PHC policies and procedures.
MANAGERIAL
  • To support Radiation Protection Supervisor Quality Management programme.
  • To undertake specialised cardiac catheter lab radiography procedures unaided.
  • To critically evaluate images both technically and clinically in order to ensure that the best possible imaging is produced taking the patients medical and psychological condition into account.
  • To maintain the highest standards of personal practical and theoretical knowledge.
  • To organise planned maintenance and advise engineers on equipment problems and failures, undertaking fault finding procedures and remedial action as required by equipment maintenance engineers.
  • To diligently record all necessary fiscal and technical data, using departmental and hospital paper and electronic systems.
  • To monitor quality control of all imaging protocols.
  • To maintain a Quality Assurance programme within the catheter lab in accordance with departmental policy.
  • To be responsible for radiography audit as it applies to the catheter lab.
  • To be responsible for the promotion of and compliance with the Local Rules for Radiation Safety; ensuring patient, staff and visitor safety is of paramount importance at all times.
  • To ensure that all clinical and non-clinical accidents or incidents in the work area are promptly brought to the attention of the Health and Safety Representative, and when requested, co-operate with any investigations undertaken.
  • To comply at all times with policies and procedures relating to Health and Safety and to escalate any hazard in accordance with reporting processes.
EDUCATIONAL
  • Participate in relevant induction programmes for new staff, as appropriate.
  • To participate in educational programmes for own professional development, including (but not limited to) mandatory training in: a) Fire safety b) Basic life support c) Moving and handling.
  • To participate in ongoing teaching programmes and staff development.
  • To act as an educational resource for others.
  • To encourage all staff to maintain their own professional practice and keep abreast of current developments and research.
  • To liaise with managers to ensure that educational needs are met.
  • To ensure that members of staff are conversant with and adhere to: a) Fire safety b) Basic life support c) Moving and handling.
  • To ensure own training needs are met and maintain a development structure that will foster best practice.
  • Attend any specific clinical training that ensures clinical competency is maintained.
  • Complete reports and records as required by managers e.g. incidents/accidents.
  • Deal with complaints in accordance with local and Trust policy.
  • Maintain effective communication with all service users and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Liaise with outside agencies as appropriate.
  • Ensure Clinical Governance standards are met with partnership of unit manager/s.

Qualifications:

Essential
  • Applicants must hold current professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Previous experience working within a cardiac catheter lab.
Desirable
  • Previous experience of QA responsibilities.
