About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Technician with strong practical knowledge across Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronic Engineering to join our team in London. This is a hands-on, student-facing role, supporting teaching and research within our Engineering laboratories and workshops. You’ll play a key part in creating an inspiring, safe, and innovative learning environment — helping students bring their ideas to life through practical experimentation and applied engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support learning and teaching activities within Engineering labs and workshops.
  • Set up, demonstrate, and maintain a wide range of experimental rigs, tools, and teaching equipment.
  • Provide technical advice, troubleshooting, and guidance to students and academic staff.
  • Maintain and service laboratory equipment, ensuring calibration and repairs are completed promptly.
  • Uphold a strong health & safety culture, including maintaining risk assessments, COSHH documentation, and PAT testing records.
  • Install, configure, and support specialist engineering software and lab computer systems.
  • Procure, manage, and document laboratory consumables, equipment, and inventories.
  • Contribute to accreditation visits, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support open days, marketing activities, and prospective student events.
  • Lead and assist with lab upgrades and improvement projects.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience in a technical role within an industrial or higher education (HE) engineering environment.
  • A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering discipline, plus at least 2 years’ relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, equipment, and techniques.
  • Proficiency with specialist engineering software and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive, organised, and safety-conscious approach to work.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple tasks and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience supporting students or apprentices in an educational or training setting.
  • A Master’s degree or membership of a professional institution (e.g. IMechE, IET).
  • Experience developing training materials or lab documentation.
