We are working with an award-winning Children Care provider in the area of Luton, Bedfordshire. They are looking for a Team Leader to join their team. The role is full time, permanent. The Residential Child Care Team Leader will provide quality care for a group of vulnerable children in line with the Home’s statement of purpose and in delivering the Organisation’s aim with emotional & behavioural difficulties within an Ofsted residential home.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Working under the direction of the Homes Manager, actively contribute to the provision of quality care, promoting the health, welfare, education and development of young people and a coherent ethos of care aligned with the company and the home’s statement of purpose.
  • Contribute to maintaining a positive, safe and homely environment, promoting a warm and accepting atmosphere where the safety and care of young people is paramount; work with the Homes Manager to ensure proper nurturing for all children, including primary care matters of food, health, clothing and environment.
  • Promote independence, life skills and informed choices in accordance with the individual Support plan and enhance inclusion in the community; support young people to reach their full potential.
  • Support, monitor and safeguard children 24 hours a day as directed.
  • Work collectively with team members to apply effective care practices, de-escalation and diversionary techniques to manage challenging, threatening and confrontational behaviour; act in accordance with the company Behaviour Management policy and ensure appropriate recording of incidents.
  • Provide formal supervision to individual staff members as directed by the Team Manager, in line with company policy and the Children’s Home Regulations 2015.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Good level of Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent; from April 2016, it is a requirement to hold a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare within 2 years of your start date.
  • Working knowledge of childcare and child development developed through working directly with young people.
  • Experience of working with children/young people in a residential setting, with emotional/behavioural difficulties.
  • Hold a current full driving licence and be prepared to drive as part of the role.
  • Able to meet the requirement of the Alternate Week Shift pattern.
