Role Purpose

Reporting into the Engineering function, you will be responsible for identifying, quantifying and prioritising utilities and energy losses across site operations, with a key focus on steam, compressed air and water systems. Using condition monitoring techniques and analytical tools, you will convert findings into actionable improvement plans that support Engineering and Maintenance teams in delivering measurable cost, energy and CO2 reductions. This is a hands-on and analytical role, ideal for an engineer who enjoys combining technical investigation with continuous improvement and operational collaboration. Occasional UK travel may be required.

Key Responsibilities

As Utilities & Energy Optimisation Engineer, your main tasks and duties will include:

  • Identifying steam leaks, steam trap failures, compressed air leaks and water losses across site
  • Quantifying utilities losses in kWh, cost and CO2 impact
  • Prioritising defects and opportunities based on operational and financial impact
  • Developing and deploying a site-wide utilities condition monitoring programme
  • Defining survey routes, inspection frequencies and monitoring methodologies
  • Converting findings into prioritised defect lists and actionable insights
  • Owning and maintaining a central utilities loss database
  • Developing dashboards and reporting tools using Excel and/or Power BI
  • Supporting Engineering Managers in developing improvement plans
  • Working closely with Maintenance teams to ensure corrective actions are completed
  • Tracking completion of actions and validating realised benefits
  • Training operational and engineering teams in utilities monitoring techniques
  • Supporting the delivery of site sustainability and energy reduction objectives

About You

You will be a proactive and results-driven engineering professional with strong analytical capability and the ability to turn technical findings into meaningful operational improvements. We're looking for someone who can work independently, influence stakeholders and collaborate effectively across Engineering and Maintenance teams.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Engineering Qualification - Level 2 minimum
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret data and translate findings into practical actions
  • Experience working with steam, compressed air and water systems
  • Ability to quantify utilities losses into energy, cost and CO2 impact

Desirable:

  • Experience using condition monitoring equipment including ultrasound and thermography tools
  • Condition monitoring training or certification
  • Experience creating dashboards and reports using Excel or Power BI
  • Experience within a manufacturing or FMCG environment
  • Strong influencing and communication skills
