Women’s will receive and review intake forms and assign cases to our staff and lay counselors; and will work well with our team to accomplish ministry plans and objectives. We hold to and humbly serve from a biblical counseling perspective.

This person will oversee and provide counseling to women and children within the Briarwood Counseling Ministry, whose focus may overlap with occasional support of men as appropriate. She will possess strong relational, organizational, and communication skills. She will work well with coworkers and volunteers. She will receive and review intake forms from prospective counselees and assign cases to our staff and lay counselors. She will counsel from a Reformed view of Scripture and will serve in this position as a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church.

Position Requirements

  • EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / ETHOS: The qualified candidate will have earned a master’s degree in biblical counseling or the equivalent; served at least five years in a counseling/discipleship setting; and shown herself to be a skillful and winsome practitioner in our approach to counseling. She will hold to and serve from a biblical counseling perspective as defined by “The Confessional Statement of the Biblical Counseling Coalition,” and seek to engage those outside our tradition with humility and respect.
  • SKILLS: Counseling – equipped and effective in biblical counseling, which includes counseling women and children; Administration – organized and proficient in planning and getting logistical tasks done. Capable of managing both tasks and people; Communication – able to relate effectively with coworkers generally, and with counselees specifically; Team – works well with a team to accomplish ministry plans and objectives; Computer Literacy – Comfortable and proficient in computer skills necessary in a windows environment.

Position Responsibilities

  • Counseling Women and Children: Maintain a counseling load of 15-20 sessions each week. Assist the Director of Counseling and lay counselors as needed in collaborative counseling. Provide advocacy for women and children in conflicted situations. Have a heart for and be proactive in counsel and care for the afflicted and vulnerable.
  • Coordinating Lay Counselors: Assist the Director of Counseling with the administration of the Counseling Ministry Team. Receive and review Personal Data Inventory (PDI) from prospective counselees. Assign new counselees to the appropriate staff or lay counselors. Maintain a running record of counseling cases, including assigned pairings, date started, and date completed.
  • Coordinating Premarital Counselors: Assist the Director of Counseling with the administration of the Premarital Counseling Ministry Team. Receive Personal Data Inventory (PDI), Temperament Survey, and payment for the Prepare/Enrich assessment from prospective counselees. Assign new counselees to the appropriate staff or lay counselors. Maintain a running record of counseling cases, including assigned pairings, date started, and date completed.
  • Supporting the Counseling Ministry: Support the vision, mission, values, and goals under the supervision of the Director of the Briarwood Counseling Ministry. Will attain any certification needed for the effectiveness of the ministry as assigned by the Director of Counseling. Will faithfully fulfill any additional assignments.
