Role Overview

This is a fantastic opportunity for an aspiring finance professional to join a busy and supportive finance function. As an Assistant Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the month-end process, maintaining accurate financial records, and contributing to the delivery of timely management information. Working closely with Management Accountants and the wider finance team, you will gain hands-on experience across a broad range of accounting duties, including reconciliations, journal postings, and financial reporting. The role will also involve regular collaboration with operational and administrative teams, providing valuable exposure to the wider business. This position is ideal for someone who is actively studying towards a recognised accounting qualification and looking to further develop their practical experience in a fast-paced environment. You will be encouraged to grow your skills, take ownership of tasks, and contribute to continuous improvement within the finance function.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of the monthly management accounts process
  • Support month-end close activities to ensure deadlines are met
  • Prepare and post journals, including accruals, prepayments, and other adjustments
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations across all areas and investigate discrepancies
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules
  • Assist with the production of monthly reporting packs and KPI reporting
  • Assist with the preparation of VAT / TSS submissions
  • Carry out daily bank postings and bank reconciliations
  • Support Management Accountants and the wider finance team during month-end and reporting cycles
  • Provide ad-hoc financial support and analysis as required

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an Assistant Accountant or Assistant Management Accountant role
  • Actively studying towards AAT Level 2 or 3 (or early-stage CIMA or equivalent, with studies commenced)
  • Good understanding of month-end accounting processes
  • Experience working with accounting systems and ERP systems such as Access Financials or Dimensions preferred but not essential
