Hours: Monday–Thursday 8:00am–4:30pm, Friday 8:00am–1:00pm

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for a well-established engineering and fabrication business seeking a Senior Production / Workshop Engineer to join their team. This is a hands-on, practical role focused on supporting workshop operations, improving job flow, and ensuring projects move efficiently from concept through to manufacture. Working closely with senior leadership, you will play a key role in reducing pressure on the senior engineer by taking ownership of day-to-day production coordination and workshop activities.

The Role

This is a varied position combining workshop coordination, production support, and practical engineering input. You will be responsible for ensuring that jobs are clearly defined, properly resourced, and delivered efficiently through the workshop.

  • Coordinate day-to-day workshop activities, ensuring jobs are prioritised and progressing to schedule
  • Act as the link between design and fabrication, ensuring work is practical and buildable
  • Review engineering drawings and identify issues, risks, or inefficiencies before production
  • Prepare and manage bill of materials (BOMs) and job packs
  • Support the quotation process, including basic GA drawings and practical input
  • Manage ordering of materials and components, liaising with suppliers
  • Track job progress and provide clear updates to management
  • Support production planning and scheduling
  • Provide hands-on problem solving within the workshop
  • Assist with logistics and transport coordination where required

About You

  • Proven experience in a mechanical engineering or fabrication environment
  • Strong background working in or alongside a workshop or production setting
  • Highly competent in reading and interpreting engineering and fabrication drawings (essential)
  • Good understanding of welded fabrications and machined components
  • Experience with materials procurement, supplier coordination, or job tracking
  • Able to work both on the shop floor and in the office
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple jobs and priorities
  • Confident communicator, able to liaise effectively with both shop floor staff and management

CAD / Design Experience

Experience with 3D CAD (e.g. SolidWorks/OnShape or similar) is preferred but not essential. Must be comfortable working from drawings and models, but this is not a design-led role.
