We are working with a family owned business located in Grantham, who work on bespoke projects mainly within London. They are looking to recruit a dynamic individual to make this role their own and grow with the business. The successful Paint Sprayer will be responsible for applying high-quality paint, lacquer or other finishes to joinery components, furniture or other fabrications, ensuring a consistent, durable and visually accurate finish and carrying out quality checks to deliver high-standard finished components in line with drawings, specifications and health and safety requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare workpieces to ensure they are ready for primer and topcoat.
- Mix and thin paints, lacquers, stains and primers to specified ratios, colours and viscosities, following manufacturer data sheets.
- Set up, operate and adjust spray equipment to achieve an even, defect‑free finish.
- Apply primers, sealers, base coats and topcoats to timber, MDF, veneers, metals or plastics as required by the job specification.
- Visually and dimensionally inspect finished items for runs, dry spray, colour variation, orange peel and other defects, rectifying where necessary.
- Maintain spray guns, pumps, lines, filters and booths, carrying out basic cleaning, servicing and filter changes to minimise downtime.
- Work from drawings, job cards and finishing schedules, communicating with production, joinery and site teams to meet deadlines.
- Follow all COSHH, PPE and health and safety procedures, including safe handling and storage of coatings, solvents and flammable materials.
- Keep the spray area clean, organised and compliant with company safety standards.
Skills and experience
- Proven experience as a spray finisher / paint sprayer in joinery, furniture, shopfitting, or similar finishing environment.
- Strong practical spraying skills with good hand–eye coordination and quality finishing and the ability to achieve consistent finish quality.
- Good understanding of different coating systems and their application characteristics.
- Ability to read and interpret job sheets, colour specifications and technical data sheets.
- High attention to detail, with a focus on colour matching, sheen level, grain fill and overall finish quality.
- Basic maintenance knowledge for spray guns and booths, including fault finding on common spray defects.
- Ability to work to production targets while maintaining quality and minimising waste.
- Good awareness of health, safety and COSHH requirements in a spray environment.
Qualifications and requirements
- Previous experience in a similar finishing / spraying role, preferably within joinery, furniture or manufacturing.
- Relevant vocational qualification NVQ/City & Guilds in Furniture Finishing, Paint Spraying, or similar is desirable but not essential if experience is strong.
- Good level of physical fitness, able to stand for long periods and handle components safely.
- Willingness to work overtime or shifts where required to meet project deadlines.
