Job Purpose: We're seeking a talented Knitwear Designer, to lead the knitwear design process and create a beautifully crafted, sustainable knitwear collection to meet the highest standards. Inspired by our British heritage, we are looking for a passionate, innovative and collaborative Designer to join the product team, who can navigate the ever-changing landscape of fashion.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and have a thorough knowledge of current trends.
  • Create seasonal theme boards and colour palettes that draw from our rich heritage of timeless designs, whilst evolving the brand to incorporate more contemporary and ageless inspiration.
  • Research both aspirational brands and competitors in the knitwear market, understanding our USP, whilst highlighting any missed opportunities.
  • Create comprehensive sourcing boards to send out to suppliers.
  • Build and manage yarn and spec libraries.
  • Lead the development of original knitwear designs, including sketches, technical drawings and specifications.
  • Select appropriate yarns, stitches and knitwear techniques for each design.
  • Action samples in a timely manner, liaising with Buying and Suppliers to ensure that deadlines and the critical path are adhered to.
  • Manage the product from design development through to production, working closely with the technical and buying teams to mitigate any production and costing issues.
  • Build strong relationships with both long and short lead suppliers, pre-empting any challenges.
  • Travel nationally and internationally for both inspiration and development trips.
  • Present and communicate seasonal boards, colour palettes and designs to the wider team.
  • Work closely with the product teams and garment tech to fit the collections, ensuring that quality, fit and design are at the heart of every piece.
  • React strategically to trade and performance feedback to enhance the knitwear collection.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Experienced in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Indesign.
  • Possess a strong technical understanding of knitwear construction.
  • Have a proven track record of developing successful knitwear products.
  • Experience of developing brand appropriate patterning, with an understanding of colourways, scale and technique.
  • Experience working across both short and long lead suppliers.
  • Able to create comprehensive technical packs for all knitwear.
  • Have a good understanding of fit and garment construction, yarn and trims, with an understanding of quality and finish for higher priced garments.
  • Be able to manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • A minimum of at least 5 years' experience in knitwear design.
  • Portfolio examples of tech packs/ art works, demonstrating a clear understanding of knit across gauges, stitches, textures and ply.
