Technical Lead (D4010D5)

Referment is working with a workplace mental-health technology company whose products combine digital tools, science and human support for organisations and their employees.

This hands-on Technical Lead role sits within a product team and reports to an Engineering Manager. You will be the Product Manager's technical counterpart, owning the team's architecture, technical quality and sequencing while continuing to design and ship complex software alongside other engineers.

The Role

• Shape product direction by connecting technical choices, non-functional requirements and investment needs to user and business outcomes.
• Own day-to-day architecture, technical risk and delivery sequencing, aligned with longer-term direction from Staff Engineers.
• Review plans and code, raise engineering quality and mentor the team while taking on difficult hands‑on work.
• Balance pace, scope and maintainability, escalating dependencies and risks clearly to engineering leadership.
• Use AI-assisted development tools across scoping, design, coding, review and documentation, and share effective practices with peers.

What We're Looking For

• A strong track record as a Senior Engineer in product-focused teams, including architecture, delivery and mentoring.
• Experience partnering with Product Managers to shape what gets built rather than only executing briefs.
• Confident technical judgement, strong written and verbal communication, and independence with incomplete information.
• Solid software-engineering fundamentals; the current environment includes TypeScript, React, GraphQL, Node.js, Python, Go and SQL, but expertise in every technology is not required.
