Referment is working with a regulated European stock exchange operator that runs pan-European equities trading and licenses its own exchange technology.
Its Infrastructure team is looking for a Database Administrator to take ownership of a production database estate that underpins live trading and operational systems.
The Role
You’ll be the primary resource administering, monitoring and maintaining the database estate that supports the Engineering and Operations teams.
This is a hands‑on role across a varied stack: My SQL, Postgre SQL, a high‑performance time‑series database (Quest DB) used for market data and operational metrics, a version-controlled SQL database (Dolt), plus Redis and Elasticsearch.
You’ll plan upgrades and migrations with minimal production disruption, design and routinely test backup and restore procedures against documented recovery objectives, and monitor health, capacity and performance to catch bottlenecks before they hit services.
You’ll also work closely with developers on schema-change reviews, query optimisation and index design, integrate database metrics and logs into the company's monitoring and alerting stack (including Grafana dashboards), and manage database users, roles and permissions on a least-privilege basis.
You’ll act as the primary point of escalation for database issues across the business.
- What We’re Looking For
- Proven hands‑on DBA experience in a fast‑paced production environment, ideally within financial services or another regulated, compliance‑driven setting.
- Strong My SQL knowledge — installation, configuration, replication, tuning and user management.
- Strong Postgre SQL working knowledge (query planning, indexing strategies, roles, connections).
Quest DB experience is a plus but a solid Postgre SQL background and interest in time‑series workloads fits well since Quest DB speaks the Postgre SQL wire protocol.
- Practical backup and restore experience across My SQL and Postgre SQL, including point‑in‑time recovery.
- Comfortable in a Linux server environment with command‑line tooling.
Experience with Redis, Elasticsearch, Grafana or branching/version‑controlled databases would be advantageous, as would an understanding of audit and change‑control requirements.
This could suit an experienced DBA who enjoys owning a database estate end to end and wants to learn newer, specialist database technologies in a low‑latency trading environment.
