Referment is working with a UK fintech scale-up that supplies lenders with real-time credit information and analytics through API-first products, so lending decisions draw on data that reflects consumers as they are today rather than weeks-old credit files.
They're hiring a Product Engineer early in their career to build the Go services their lender partners depend on every day, within a small, collaborative and highly productive engineering team.
This is a Go role first and foremost: you'll spend most of your time writing, testing and operating the Go microservices behind B2B APIs on AWS, and grow into the wider stack from there.
You'll be paired with and mentored by senior engineers, but you'll own real features end to end from day one.
They hire for trajectory as much as experience, so the scope of the role will grow with what you bring and what you learn.
They want a product mindset, not just an implementation one — engineers who ask who the change is for, what problem it solves, and whether the design holds up in production before writing the code.
The team sets a high bar for code quality, design taste and delivery, and makes deliberate, responsible use of modern AI tooling — an assistant to engineering judgement, never a replacement for it.
The Role
- Build, test and ship features in Go API services, with support and code review from senior engineers.
- Take real ownership of what you deliver, from design discussion through to production behaviour and the customer outcome.
- Work with AWS infrastructure, containers and CI/CD pipelines, and learn to operate what you build.
- Contribute to code review, design discussions and technical decisions — have a view, and change it when the evidence says so.
- Use AI tooling deliberately to raise the quality and pace of your work, staying accountable for every line you ship.
What We're Looking For
- Some commercial software engineering experience, or equivalent evidence that you can build and ship real software — roughly one to three years is the range in mind, with capability valued over time served.
- Go at the heart of your skill set: either you've used it commercially, or you've built substantial projects in it and can talk fluently about how and why.
- Product instinct — thinking about the user of the API or interface, not just the ticket, and pushing back when something doesn't make sense.
- Fluent, deliberate use of AI development tools in your workflow, moving faster while staying fully accountable for the code you ship.
- Familiarity with AWS, containers and CI/CD — Fargate, Lambda, Aurora Postgres, Dynamo DB and Git Hub Actions.
You don't need all of it on day one, but you should be keen to learn it properly.
An interest in fintech, credit or other regulated industries is welcome; direct experience is a plus, not a requirement.
The role is hybrid, based in London with two to three days a week in the office and the rest working from home.
This could suit...
an engineer a year or two into their career with solid Go experience, a backend developer looking to move into product-focused fintech work, or a strong self-taught builder with substantial Go projects who can demonstrate they ship.
