Referment are partnering with a fast-growing, founder‑led law firm to hire an exceptional Senior Associate to join their ambitious and close‑knit team. This is a genuinely exciting opportunity for a commercially minded lawyer who wants to work at the heart of the UK tech and fintech ecosystem, acting as outsourced General Counsel to high‑growth businesses.
The successful candidate will take the lead across several key clients, working closely with founders, senior stakeholders and fellow Associates to provide strategic, commercially focused legal advice. This role is heavily focused on commercial transactions and deal‑making rather than purely regulatory advisory or compliance.
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
- Is an expert commercial and transactional lawyer with a high level of PQE (typically 10+ years) and strong entrepreneurial energy.
- Has a proven track record in deal‑making, including leading fundraises, acquisitions, and closing high‑value commercial contracts.
- Has deep experience within the fintech and payments ecosystem, with specific exposure to PayFacs, EMIs, and Open Banking.
- Has meaningful in‑house experience, ideally having held General Counsel or Chief Legal Officer positions.
- Understands the realities and pressures of scaling a business and enjoys becoming embedded in their clients' operations.
- Is a UK qualified Solicitor (or qualified in another common law jurisdiction with extensive UK experience).
- Possesses leadership experience, such as managing teams or having founded and built their own business or practice.
- Is collaborative, personable and enjoys working as part of a high‑performing team.
