This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established company delivering complex infrastructure and construction works across the region.
As a Health & Safety Advisor, you will work closely with project teams across multiple active sites, ensuring best‑in‑class safety standards are embedded into every stage of project delivery. You will play a key role in shaping and maintaining a proactive safety culture while ensuring full compliance with UK legislation and industry best practices. Travel to various sites across the North of England will be required, with comprehensive travel support or car allowances provided by the company.
The Role
As Health & Safety Advisor, you will provide expert, hands‑on guidance to operational teams across a range of live, large-scale construction sites, with a particular focus on civil engineering and complex structural works. You will help ensure that health and safety standards are consistently maintained across all project activities, specifically involving reinforced concrete and structural steel work.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Conducting regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Developing, implementing, and reviewing site‑specific risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
- Investigating incidents, accidents, and near misses, recommending effective corrective and preventative actions.
- Delivering health and safety training, inductions, and toolbox talks to site teams and contractors.
- Ensuring compliance with UK health and safety legislation and internal company policies.
- Advising project teams and management on best practice in health, safety, and environmental protection.
- Maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date health and safety documentation and reporting.
- Promoting a positive and proactive safety culture across operational sites.
- Supporting the development and continuous improvement of H&S management systems and procedures.
- Monitoring contractor health and safety performance across multiple projects.
About You
We are looking for a proactive and experienced Health & Safety professional who thrives in a fast‑paced, site‑based construction environment and is confident working across multiple live projects. This role is ideal for a hands‑on Advisor who enjoys being active on site rather than in a purely strategic or corporate capacity.
To Be Considered For This Role You Should Have
- Proven experience as a hands‑on Health & Safety Advisor specifically within large‑scale construction or civil engineering projects.
- Direct, practical experience managing safety for reinforced concrete, structural steel work, and complex concrete structures.
- A stable employment history, demonstrating commitment through permanent roles or long‑term project assignments with major contractors.
- Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and construction site practices, specifically within the heavy construction and infrastructure sectors.
- A NEBOSH qualification (Construction Certificate, National General Certificate, or Diploma) is essential.
- Demonstrated experience conducting risk assessments, site audits, and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with project teams and contractors.
- Experience working directly for major UK Tier 1 or principal contractors is highly advantageous.
- Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) is preferred but not essential.
- Significant UK‑based construction experience is required to ensure familiarity with current legislation, regulatory requirements, and site practices.
Please note that this role is focused on heavy construction and civil engineering; candidates whose primary experience is in M&E, fit‑out, residential housing, or facilities management may not be suitable for this specific position.
Why Apply?
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a respected contractor delivering complex construction and infrastructure projects across the North of England. You will play a key role in maintaining the highest standards of safety while working on challenging and rewarding projects in a supportive and collaborative environment. The company offers excellent benefits, including car allowances or comprehensive travel support for site visits (including travel costs for non‑drivers). If you are an experienced Health & Safety professional looking to make a meaningful impact within a leading construction organisation, we would love to hear from you.
