Compliance Specialist (EE287B1)

Full-Time On-site

Referment is working with a regulated payments and financial infrastructure business serving companies internationally, including in higher-risk industries. It is looking for a Compliance Specialist to work across financial crime investigations, customer due diligence and ongoing monitoring.

You’ll work closely with the MLRO and wider Compliance team, taking cases from an initial alert or review trigger through investigation, recommendation and closure. This is not simply a checklist-based review role: you’ll research customers and counterparties, connect information from different sources and explain what the evidence means for the underlying risk.

The work spans transaction monitoring, corporate ownership reviews, KYB refreshes and information requests from banking and payment partners. It offers practical depth in complex cases while also giving you a role in improving the workflows and controls used to manage them.

The Role

  • Investigate transaction monitoring alerts and complex financial crime cases, identifying suspicious activity and escalating material concerns to the MLRO or relevant colleagues.
  • Conduct KYC/KYB reviews and enhanced due diligence, assessing sanctions, PEP and adverse media risks alongside business activity and ownership structures.
  • Complete periodic reviews and KYB refreshes, checking changes in jurisdictions, management, ownership and expected customer activity.
  • Manage banking and payment partner RFIs, gathering evidence and preparing accurate, documented responses.
  • Use Sumsub to examine customer records, screening results, transactions and case evidence; undertake targeted research where information is incomplete or inconsistent.
  • Maintain clear decision records and case summaries, and support testing, quality assurance, remediation and control improvements.

What We’re Looking For

  • Around three years in AML, financial crime or compliance within regulated financial services.
  • Hands-on transaction monitoring and risk-based decision-making, including complex investigations rather than only straightforward alert processing.
  • Experience of KYB refreshes, corporate structures and RFIs, ideally involving banking or payment partners.
  • Experience with Sumsub or a comparable KYC/KYB, screening, monitoring or case management platform.
  • Strong research and written communication skills, sound AML/CTF and sanctions knowledge, and careful judgement with sensitive information.

Desirable Experience

Payments or e-money experience, direct Sumsub use, higher-risk sector exposure, complex ownership investigations and a relevant ICA or ACAMS qualification would be useful. Initial customer onboarding experience is helpful, not essential.

This could suit a financial crime analyst or compliance officer ready to apply investigative judgement across both customer reviews and transaction activity.
