The Opportunity

Referment is working with a small, well-funded London startup building real-time speech translation for real-world conversations. They're right at the start of the journey and need a sharp generalist to build the operational backbone of an eight-person company. You'll join the business side of the company, working directly with the Chief of Staff. Your starting point is operations: the systems, suppliers, office, onboarding and registers that keep a small company running properly — and the processes nobody has written down yet. The scope is yours to grow: as the company does, you'll own operations outright, with the team and tools to run it. They'd rather hire someone sharp and let the scope follow their strengths than write a narrow job and hope it fits.

Examples Of What You'll Do

  • Operations: the office, equipment, suppliers, insurance, tools and subscriptions, onboarding and offboarding — if it's done twice, turn it into a system
  • Processes and registers: keep how the company works written down and current (contracts, obligations, decisions, policies), so a second person could run any process
  • Projects: own a defined project from brief to done, such as setting up a new entity process, a benefits review, or the operating cadence for a new team
  • Decision support: pull the numbers, write the one-page brief, and give the leadership a clear recommendation

What We're Looking For

  • Sharp and fast: you get to the point, hold a problem in your head, and explain it simply to someone who hasn't read the documents
  • A builder: you've built something — a system, a function or a product — rather than only maintained one
  • Precise: you notice the missing receipt, the wrong date, the step nobody documented
  • Low ego: you're there to make the company work, and you change your mind when the reasoning is sound
  • Four to six years running processes end to end in consulting, a startup operations role, or something equally demanding
  • Existing right to work in the UK (sponsorship possible after a successful probation)

This could suit a consultant or startup operator who wants real ownership of how a company runs from its earliest days, with equity as an early employee.
